Thanks for taking time to do this interview! So how did you guys first get started?
Lunch and I have been jamming together since we were kids. We were freshmen in high school when we started our first band, so we were what, 14? I'm 24 now, so that's ten years making music with this guy. Third Vision actually formed right after high school, and we've had a few different drummers who have certainly brought a lot to the band, but Nick is definitely the man. Flip is the most recent addition, though we've all been friends forever. We were basically just a bunch of guys that realized we could make rockin' music together.
So you say it's "rockin" huh, who are your influences?
Oh man, there's so many. For me, Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd are who got me into music in the first place. Today I think we all draw upon awesome artists like Deftones, 40 Below Summer, Sevendust, Ill Nino, and Tool. But it's totally not just music. Art, movies, people, and our lives in general. We create music that mirrors all of this.
Lunch: Dave writes the lyrics, so he has to say cheesy stuff like that.
So what about the rest of you-any inspirations?
Lunch: Alice in Chains. That's all that needs to be said.
Flip: I'm less hardcore than these guys-AFI, Finch, From Autumn to Ashes, Further Seems Forever... love them guys.
Nick: I love White Zombie and Primus. I know, it's weird.
That's a lot of influences, and some are very different from one another. What do you guys sound like then?
It's definitely a mix-heavy sounds, melodic sounds. It's music you can mosh and headbang and rock out to, but it's also much you can sing along with. I sing, and I scream. The drums crash, but they also hold a chill beat. It's all about a happy medium between something hard and something soft.
Sounds great. You guys have any albums?
We recorded our first album "Take With Food" several years ago, and our sound has definitely improved since then. Unfortunately we aren't signed, but we still go to the studio all the time to record tracks. Our latest album is "What's Left Behind" and we're working on it right now. A few tracks are up on our myspace page.
What can we catch you doing in your time off from the band?
Dave: Of course we hang out... we're pretty much together all the time. And we're idiots too. We bowl. (laughs)
Flip: Halo, man!
Dave: Oh yeah, they're on the Xbox pretty much all the time. I still haven't gotten that thing figured out yet.
Nick: We're always eating, too. Dave's girlfriend is a God in the kitchen. And we don't give her a break.
Lunch: Eh, she secretly likes it.
Dave: Oh ****, her taco salad is BANGING!
So where can I catch some of your shows?
We play in and around Philly, Atlantic City, and North Jersey and New York. Other local bands we support are Willpowerless and Sideshow-good friends of ours. Most of our shows are 21+ because they're in bars, but at least there's usually $7 unlimited beer specials! (laughs)
Thanks again guys, I'll definitely be heading to your next show.
Tell all your friends!
Certainly Third Vision is an up and coming band in South Jersey. They are striving hard for what they believe in-that music is a gift to the world and one of the things that makes it so beautiful. They are trying to share that sentiment with everyone through their own music, and it truly is "rockin."
