Katy: How old are you and can you tell me a little about your family?
Nathan Lewis: Well I just turned 26 in June and I have a lovely wife and two wonderful children one girl and a boy.
Katy: That is precious, how long have you been married?
Nathan Lewis: 5 1/2 years
Katy: Wow wonderful!
Katy: what branch of the military are you in?
Nathan Lewis: I am in the Army.
Nathan Lewis: I was in the Navy for a while as well.
Katy: Wow so you got honorable discharged from the Navy and joined the Army, what made you do that?
Nathan Lewis: Too many people in the Navy and not enough advancement.
Katy: Oh I see. So which branch do you like the best?
Nathan Lewis: Well the Navy is a lot more see the world type of military but the Army is funner.
Katy: Ah gotcha, that is cool.
Katy: How long were you in the Navy and how long have you been in the Army?
Nathan Lewis: I was in the Navy for 4 years and I have been in the Army for almost two.
Katy: Okay, so you have been serving almost 6 years, thank you.
Nathan Lewis: You're welcome.
Katy: Aren't you in Iraq right now?
Nathan Lewis: Yes
Katy: How long have you been there?
Nathan Lewis: Since April
Katy: What is it like to wake up in the morning and face what is going on there?
Nathan Lewis: Well it is scary sometimes because you will hear gunfire of an explosion and not know if something will explode by you next, but the kids are what I enjoy about Iraq.
Nathan Lewis: They are so wonderful because they want to see a peaceful resolution to this whole war.
Nathan Lewis: and it seems like they are the only ones who hold this country together.
Katy: I bet and that is so admirable. For you to take to the kids like that.
Katy: Aw that is great but at the same time sad.
Nathan Lewis: Well they can't help the situation they are in.
Katy: I bet you notice a lot of emotional effects that take it's toll on the kids.
Nathan Lewis: It's the adults that need to stand up for themselves and end this war.
Katy: Yes I agree.
Nathan Lewis: I do.
Katy: Do they have kids fighting in the war?
Nathan Lewis: No not usually.
Nathan Lewis: Sometimes in like Baghdad they use kids as suicide bombers.
Katy: Oh that is appalling, how sad.
Nathan Lewis: Yes.
Katy: Have you actually seen anyone get killed?
Nathan Lewis: and they also use children and women as shields.
Katy: (sorry stop me if you need to)
Nathan Lewis: No, no you're fine
Katy: That is crazy, but not surprising.
Nathan Lewis: No I have not seen anyone killed yep but I have lost a good friend of mine already.
Katy: Oh, I am so sorry.
Katy: Do you know how long you will have to stay there?
Nathan Lewis: 18 months at the longest.
Katy: How is this effecting your family?
Nathan Lewis: Well my kids are missing me and they wake up crying at night sometimes missing me but other than that my wife usually tells them what is going on.
Katy: Yeah, I can't even fathom what they are going through. As long as they know Daddy is a hero.
Katy: So you told me earlier that you get to go home to visit, soon, right?
Nathan Lewis: I never consider myself a hero.
Katy: Well I do.
Nathan Lewis: Yes
Nathan Lewis: Thank you
Katy: I am sure many other Americans do as well.
Katy: How long will you be able to stay at home?
Nathan Lewis: Two weeks.
Katy: That is good.
Katy: What do you think about President Bush? Is he fair in this war?
Nathan Lewis: In the beginning I would have said yes, but I think the war has drug on too long.
Katy: Yes. Do you think there will be peace anytime soon?
Nathan Lewis: There will never be peace in the Middle East.
Katy: If there is one thing you could tell the American people, about your experience, what would it be?
Nathan Lewis: That it is all worth it that America is worth fighting for and people need to remember what happened on September 11.
Katy: Yes, definitely. Is there anything else that you would like to say?
Nathan Lewis: USA is #1
Katy: I agree!!
Katy: Well I won't keep you any longer. Just so you know, this will be published for all to see.
Katy: Oh yeah, may I ask your rank?
Nathan Lewis: All as in who?
Nathan Lewis: Yes, I am a Specialist.
Katy: The place is called Associated Content
Nathan Lewis: Okay
Nathan Lewis: Cool
Katy: Is that Okay?
Nathan Lewis: Of course
Katy: We are proud of you SPC. Lewis. Have a good night.
Nathan Lewis: You too
Katy: Did I abbreviate that right?
Nathan Lewis: And I will talk to you later.
Nathan Lewis: Yep
Katy: Okay, Thanks and God Bless.
Nathan Lewis: You too.
