Interviewing- How to Win the Job or the Best Employee

Sarah Rachel
Interviews can be a stressful, yet a necessary part of obtaining a new job. When looking for work a prospective employer needs to interview possible candidates for the job to ensure that the job is a perfect fit. Asking pertinent questions about work history, work ethic, and skills are all vital steps in the interview process. Taking on a new employee is always a risk, and interviewing job seekers helps to eliminate some of that risk. However, the person being interviewed may feel apprehensive or nervous when sitting down with someone who might be their boss. Taking the interview, seriously and preparing ahead of time can help ease some of this stress.

Interview Tips for Employees

Always go to bed early the night before an interview. Give yourself plenty of time to get there. When you meet with your interviewer smile, give direct eye contact, and shake hands. Avoid talking over your potential employer. Allow them to ask the questions and let him or her always talk first. Think about what you are going to say before you say it and respond with an eagerness to commit. You want to display how interested you are in the position and why you should be their top choice. Sell yourself, and express your skills with confidence.

Appearance

Dress sharply in your best suit or conservative dress. For women, wear light make up and preferably pull your hair up in a professional up-do. For men, be sure that you are clean shaven, and keep your hair neat and gelled back. Brush your teeth before going out the door, and if you have time whiten your teeth the night before.

How to Get Over Pre-Interview Jitters

If you feel nervous before going into an interview you can do a few things to get in the right mindset. Don't rush to the interview because this will just make your heart race even more. Take a few deep breaths before going in and remember that there really is nothing to fear. People are required to go on interviews all the time and you are not the only one. If your hands are shaky put them behind you or fold your hands on your lap. Speak slowly and think before talking. Try to be friendly and polite and break the ice with your prospective boss if you can. You can also practice ahead of time with a friend or family member.

Make and Impression

The more you are remembered the greater your chances are of landing a job. Be sure to give an equal exchange of information. You want to answer questions, but you also want to ask questions to your interviewer. Find out more about the company you may be working for. Smile and listen closely.

Interview Tips for Employers

If you are the one conducting the interview you may be wondering how you are going to choose the best person for the job. This can be difficult especially if you interview several stellar candidates. First impressions mean a lot. Take notes about each potential employee. Did he or she arrive early, and show genuine interest in the position? What was your overall impression of the person? What did you think of the answers given? Narrow your choices down to only a few people. Choose the best person based on your opinion, and possibly call these people in for a second interview with your boss if you need help making a decision.
