I am sick and tired of people just about running me over when walking on my street. They travel too fast hugging the blind curves too tight and it's on my last nerve. Despite staring them down as they nearly run me over on a daily basis, with a look that is throwing broad swords not daggers, they do it again the next day. Last week when I started yelling at them, their windows were open after all, I thought maybe they would start to pay a little more attention. When two of them passed each other and me at the same time on the narrowest part of the road two days ago I knew it was hopeless.
I walk at the same time the mass influx begins. The kids come home with the mother's hours moms, then the waves of work traffic hit and in between all that the kids who came home are on their way back out. Same time, same place, EVERY SINGLE DAY! How dumb are these people? Your kids walk and ride their bikes on this street, they are getting off the bus, they are going out to their friend's houses, they are on their way to sports programs, some of your spouses are walking your dogs for crying out loud! You can't show the same courtesy, nay common sense, you would expect from me if I was driving by you or your kids or your wife?
How sad is it that I live in the middle of the sticks on what should be a nice slow meandering drive that relaxes you for whatever you are about to embark on but in essence has become an Indy 500 race to nowhere important. Sadly they don't miss the things I take pictures of as I walk by. Instead they murder them with their out of control cars on a regular basis. Birds, squirrels, minks, foxes, raccoons, possums, turtles, frogs, and chipmunks... all things they could avoid if they went the speed limit.
Problem solved! The other day a neighbor was cleaning out the basement and amongst the various items I saw a miniature Louisville slugger. You'd be amazed how slow they pass and how wide a berth they give when you are casually swinging a bat in the direction of the mirror on their precious over priced vehicle. Sigh -- they didn't learn anything. I did, and suffice it to say I wasn't surprised at what it was: Their THINGS were more important to them than doing the right thing in the first place.
I chuckled to myself as they swung wide and slowed down. I could still reach out and whack them. How surprised would they be if I did and then yelled, "That's for all the times you sped by too close jackass!" As the mirror of the punk-ass-never-worked-a-day-in-his-life kid's Lexus skids into the poison ivy covering the side of the road I'd add, "Pull up your pants and turn down that crap noise you think is music too!"
Be safe.
