Intro to Stockpiling

Stockpiling is one of the major ways people who save money, save money. Some people stock up on drugstore items only, some food only, and some both. Now if you're wondering what stockpiling is - it's basically buying a lot of small/average size items in bulk. Instead of going to a big warehouse store and buying a 15 gallon jug of soda - you would go to the grocery store and buy 5 12-packs of soda on sale with a coupon - and it would be cheaper. You may be thinking that it's crazy to buy 60 cans of soda - but in the long run it really saves you money. Lets take a look at this shampoo example:

Regular Cost: $4.00

Sale Cost: $2.00

Coupon Value: $1.50

Total Cost: .50 cents a bottle

Saving: $3.50

Now when an item like that goes on sale like that - and it's less than a dollar I buy about 5 of that item - so that when I need a bottle of shampoo I won't be running out to the store to buy a $4.00 bottle of shampoo - I'll just "shop" at home and "buy" a bottle of shampoo from my cabinet.

Now lots of you may be wondering and why am I going to be buying so much shampoo - where am I going to put it all!

Well let's take a look at how much I saved on just 5 bottles of shampoo -

$17.50!! That's enough for dinner and dessert at the local diner! Or it can go straight into your savings account! Now some of my favorite places to store my items are in under-the-bed storage containers! I have about 5 and keep two under my desk, and three under my bed. There stocked with shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, paper towels, deodorant, and the occasional candy bar thrown in for good measure! I have close to three months worth of each - so when it goes back on sale, I just stock up again. Now when I find my stockpile overflowing - I'll donate it to the local food bank or shelter (it's not quite there yet - but it's getting there. I'm making a huge donation - for pennies.

One last reason to stockpile is for the convience. It't not always about the money you save! If it's 7:00 at night and I've just come home and want to bake a cake (which I sometimes do!!) and am out of baking powder - I don't want to have to get my coat on, and go to the store to boy another sack of flour. It's not enjoyable and inconvienent.

Great idea. I will surely get some more of those containers that seal well & start stocking up. Thanks & keep up the suggestions.
