Introducign and Using Civilian MREs for Your Outdoors Needs

Chad R. Herman
In the past, there needed to be a cook or a mess hall cart with any battalion in the military. If they ran out of food, they were forced to scavenge for food. The most famous soldier scavengers were the civil war general George Sherman's troops. They had no food with them so they ran sacked every business and house they came across. In WWI, the soldiers were based in a town and gathered food from the town that was closest to the trenches they were in. Finally in WWII they found a way to feed the soldiers and provide them with all the vitamins and minerals they needed. Unfortunately, the meals that are ready to eat (MRE) was a glorified can of spam, some powdered milk, a bottle of coca cola, and a piece of chocolate. In the subsequent wars after that, the MRE's didn't change all that much till the mid 80's. That's when the military created the MRE's of today and started offering them to the civilian world.

The new MRE's which are now in both the military and the civilian world are state of the art meals that anyone would be happy to say they are eating. You won't dread having dinner on the campfire with these meals. They are full of all of the necessary vitamins and minerals that a true survivalist or camper needs in their food when they're out in the wilderness. The best part of these meals are that they actually taste good and come in a vast array of different flavors and tastes. There are even MRE's for different dietary needs such as vegetarian, nut allergies, and gluten allergies. But why would you need an MRE?

When you go out into the wild there's always the problem of food. If you're going to hunt for your food, you'll need to carry with you all the tools to do that.. You're also going to need to know the local vegetation and local animals there. There's also the very real possibility of not being able to find anything to eat and drink, and your trip will come down to pure survival rather than a trip of relaxation and hiking. If you're going to be in the wilderness for any reason, the best thing to take with you is civilian MRE's.

There are many survivalists and die hard wilderness types that believe taking anything but the bare minimum is ridiculous. However, any real outdoors person knows that carrying food is not a sign of weakness; on the contrary, it's a sign that you are smarter than most. You have done enough thinking and planning to realize your goal is not to worry about where your next meal is coming from, but rather to get through the bush in any way possible. These meals are meals that anyone would be happy to say they are eating. You won't dread having dinner on the campfire with these meals. You will be glad you brought them.
