Introducing Your Child to the Biography Section of the Library
Biographies Can Be Great for Reluctant Readers!
To introduce your child to the biography section of your local library, first of all be sure to get an idea of his favorite people. You may be well aware that your ten year old daughter loves Justin Bieber or that your nine year old son can't get enough of Ochocincho. But just to be safe, make sure you know all of his or her likes in the celebrity and sports world.
Next take your child to the juvenile biography section of the library. This section of the library is arranged according to the biographee, or the person that the book is written about. You will find them placed in alphabetical order based on the biographee's last name. Start taking a look at the offerings there on the shelf. Your child is likely to be pleasantly surprised! Who knew that the library had books all about Miranda Cosgrove and Taylor Swift? More than likely, your child will find multiple biography titles that he or she will want to take home and read.
While you're at it, make sure to check out the collective biographies section. While some libraries include this along with regular biographies others have these books about more than one person separated out, often in the 920s. Books about musical groups, for instance, are likely to be categorized as collective biographies. So if your child really wants to read about The Jonas Brothers, biographies about them may be found in this special section of the library.
The biography section of the library is a great place to find exciting books that your children will be nuts about. Don't forget about this great section of the library with books available for just about every personality out there. With a little guidance, your child will not only know what biographies are, but may also want to race to that section of the library first each time you visit.
