Introducing Jesse Erckert

Pat Jacobs

A "solo" artist in every sense of the word, Jesse Erckert was born in Brooklyn, NY before moving to NJ at the age of 10. After receiving his first set of drums at age 14, it was obvious he was a natural. His drumming skills became second nature in no time. Soon after, he picked up a friend's guitar and within weeks was playing with the skill of a veteran. He started writing music and recording original songs, laying down tracks on an old computer, including vocals and harmony. Necessity caused him to become a self-taught bass and keyboard player and by age 16, he had completed his first CD entitled, "To New Heights" which featured the locally popular "Separation Anxiety."

With no formal music training, in 2007 Jesse auditioned and was accepted to the prestigious New Jersey School of the Arts, a special program for gifted teen musicians. A recent collection of songs included "Do or Die", a tune that proved to be instantly popular and received rave reviews from both in and outside his growing fan base.

After receiving a CD from a fan, local radio station WMCX deputed "You're Cute, I'm Curious" in February 2009. The response was so positive, Jesse was invited to the station for a live interview and an acoustic performance. Popular demand prompted the station to have Jesse return twice more where they debuted three of his original recordings and he gave a total of eleven live acoustic performances. He eventually headlined a WMCX-sponsored event at a historic NJ club where Bruce Springsteen got his start.

His subsequent live appearances have all met with great reviews; now age 21 (a Taurus, sign of the throat and singers!) continues to build his growing fan base, winning audiences with his unique style and natural appeal (and still records all of his songs performing every drum beat, note, and vocal himself).

I've had the recent privilege (and pleasure) of hearing several of his songs and already have some favorites : Now they're all good (the distinctive drum intro in "Do or Die" is fantastic!), but I love "Out of Reach", Alphabetametaphor" and "Alive With You".

Jesse may remind you of several singers, yet he has his own unique style. I think he's amazing just for the dedication and total willpower to learn several instruments and to put together this music all by himself.
