Introducing Microsoft's Skinput: Touch Your Skin & Control Your Electronic Devices

New Technology Will Allow You to Touch Your Skin and Control Any Device

Microsoft had been very silent about a lot of the new technologies that they have been working on. The past couple of days have shown the technology leader showcase some of their upcoming ideas and how they will change the industry. It was hard for me to go through what they showcased and pick one thing that truly stuck out. This was until the company announced a new technology simply known as Skinput. Let me tell you that consumers will flock to purchase this innovative product once it hits the market and that Microsoft has something truly special on the horizon.

You can call me luck for being able to be on of the first people to get a peek at Skinput. The best way that I can describe this technology is that it is a unique interface that is somehow projected onto your arm. The projected image is that of three different color bands than you are able to interact with through touch. What results is that you are given the power to operate a electronic device through simply pressing the buttons located on the armbands that are projected onto your arm. If you were able to follow me so far, please keep reading to learn how everything works.

Microsoft has constructed a test model so far. The test model is a somewhat bulky piece of equipment that you simply strap to the upper portion of your arm (over your bicep). Microsoft says they already have a much smaller version in the works and that will be the version that consumers will be able to purchase. Once you have the device strapped to your arm, the magic begins. A set of images is projected onto your skin. The device will detect all of the small vibrations that are generated whenever you tap the images displayed upon your skin. This information is then transferred to the electronic device you are using and the action you asked for is completed.

Skinput is able to do this because of all of our different bone densities, muscle size, and tissue masses. It is because each of these are so unique that Skinput is capable of picking up our unique vibrations. These vibrations can then be identified from where they are coming from and thus have their energy/information transferred to the electronic device. To be blunt, this is rather amazing and shows that Microsoft has created something genuine and authentic.

To truly understand how amazing this product is would be to apply what you think this technology can lead to. Skinput will allow users to interface with any electronic device by simply touching their skin. It will only be a matter of time before the technology is incorporated to other areas. Imagine being able to touch "buttons" projected on your wall to turn on the lights in your home? Or imagine being able to control your car through simple projection? This can all be made possible with this great invention.

Skinput will make Microsoft relevant again. A lot of consumers are talking and hyping up anything that Apple has been coming out with. It has been quite sometime since Microsoft has come out with something that makes the public truly get excited. This product can bring the excitement back to Microsoft and help a company recover from recent massive layoffs. Skinput is the future of touch interface technology and you heard it hear first.
