Introduction to the Modeling Industry

The modeling industry gives name, fame and money besides being fun and highly satisfying. However, it is a tough and demanding industry requiring models to be hardworking, disciplined, punctual, courteous, and possessing the right attitude and determination. It is a fact that many leave modeling within the first few months whereas many go on to become supermodels.

In modeling, numerous cameras are watching your every move and not everyone can face the cameras with confidence, grace, poise, and style. Many models have experienced fright and have numbed when their chance arrives to walk the ramp as fashion models. Many models fail miserably in giving the right expression and many models stammer if asked to utter even two words while shooting for a TV commercial. This may be due to nervous breakdowns, drug usage or extreme lack of self-confidence. However, usually it is due to incorrect attitude and wrong training.

On the other hand, there have also been models having undergone professional training and possessing the correct attitude, the correct determination, and the correct confidence are successfully promoting popular brands in television commercials, magazines, billboards or in fashion shows as glamor models, magazine models, fashion models or adult models. These models besides good looks exhibit characteristics of honesty, discipline, patience, courtesy, self-control, punctuality and hard work, which all together make them supermodels.

Finding work in this competitive field is difficult. You may hire a modeling agency to find work for you. A modeling agency normally executes the following functions:

1. Finds new and fresh faces ready to become models.
2. Creates appropriate portfolios for their models.
3. Trains, grooms and guides their models.
4. Promotes their models by showing their portfolios to editorial, advertising and design agencies; fashion houses, designers and entertainment companies.
5. Schedules and books their models for their respective modeling assignments.
6. Takes care of all the paperwork like contracts, billing and collecting fees from the clients for their models.

In this uneven road of the modeling industry, your gut feeling is your friend, your self-control is your philosopher, and your common sense is your guide, so that you can avoid the mistakes and make a rewarding modeling career for yourself.
