For those of you who have never heard of MotoGp let me explain it. MotoGP is the premier motorcycle racing world championship. It consists of an eighteen-race series and is held in fourteen countries. World wide media covers these events.

The riders are comprised of seven nationalities. The cycle manufacturers are; Ducati,Yamaha,Honda and Suzuki. The 125cc is the first step for young riders into world championship competition. The maximum age for riders is 28. The minimum age requirement
is 15.

There is a state of the art training center ( HART ) north of Melbourne that offers classes to beginner as well as advanced students.Hart is a non-profit division of Honda. It has facilities in Sydney and Brisbane as well as Melbourne.

The center boasts of 17,000 students per year. Hart is valuable in teaching Safety to all classes of riders.Just passing a rider's exam and receiving a license does not make a rider ready for the tracks.

The following are some tips for safety offered by some of the top riders:
* Pay attention to other riders
* Be aware of the track surface
* Notice the grip from the tires
* Always wear the best in protective gear
* Learn the differences between track and road riding techniques

There are many books written on tips for riders. Author,Keith Code wrote two in particular that should be helpful; " A Twist of the Wrist" is one and " Motorcycling Excellence" is another.

A message was issued by Secretary Peters of the USA Dept. of Transportation. On the subject of safe riding apparel he warns us about unsafe helmets. It seems that novelty helmets are being sold with fake DOT labels on them.Secretary Peters warn all riders that helmets that have gone through proper testing will have a tamper proof large DOT label on the back.

Motorcycles account for 3% of vehicles on the road. They also represent 13% of all crashes. So be safe. People tend to ignore or forget that there are motorcycles on the road and we need to be aware.
