Invasion

I was walking to the mass grave where my family is buried when the Americans invaded. It was like the entire earth was exploding, coming up into the swell between ground and sky. My god the noise was unbearable and terrifying, no one tells you that half the fear from a bomb is the noise. Bombs sound exactly as the end of the world would sound like, terrible, consuming, disorienting and crippling all at once, like the wrath of God is screaming in your face. I still shake and buckle when I remember those bombs raining down on our small city in Ontario, only a short drive from the Detroit border, it used to be called Windsor but it no longer has a name. In this new world, water is the most valuable commodity on the planet and we have an abundance of it in Canada and that made us both powerful and vulnerable. Our world changed after the meeting of the Canadian and American envoy, who later slammed the meeting calling it a farce and a ploy to postpone the water shipments from Ontario, British Columbia and the North West Territories. The tap was turned off to the Americans when the Canadian leadership finally demanded the release of four thousand of our citizens imprisoned in camps created to stem the 'terrorist leak' in our shared border. We became nothing but a leak to be plugged not a nation of people but, a threat and a nuisance, a friend that refuses to do what they're told.
This confrontation has been building for fifty years, since September 11, 2001 when the towers fell and the American global wars began. The Canadian government supported the USA for ten years in countless wars in the Middle East, all in search of these terrorists that seemed to be hoping from country to country, always evading capture. The American bombs found their targets though and increasingly their targets became villages and schools and hospitals and water supplies and oil fields. We thought we were safe here in Canada, safe from the wrath and domination of the United States and that's what our government kept telling us that the threat was 'over there' and 'they' were going to pay for what they did to 'us'.
2021 was the year the American government became, the International Governing Body of the Americas, the IGBA, they dominate every country on the planet, including Europe, the Middle East, Japan and Russia. The IGBA was declared after Israel attacked Iran and Syria with a surprise nuclear assault, what followed was mayhem and three hundred million people were exterminated and the Jewish nation rules over all of Arabia and Africa. After Israel launched its first nuclear warheads, the world became a drastically different place; every single democracy fell and crumbled into anarchy and chaos as the fear of nuclear annihilation began to spread. China signed an agreement with the IGBA to export all goods, resources and technology for a fraction of their value in exchange for freedom from forced absorption by the IGBA. Nations were permitted to keep the names of their countries but every citizen has a global identification card and must pledge allegiance to the IGBA and its leaders.
Democracy is dead. In Canada, we are ruled by appointed leaders that are chosen from a body of corporate CEOs and that power is passed to their children. Canada's last democratically elected prime minister was a man named Stephen Harper who in his second term in office invoked the War Measures Act and proceeded to transfer all government power to himself and his selected cabinet. He was killed on July 18, 2020 when a Catholic priest shot him in the face in front of a crowd of hundreds as part of a staged rally celebrating the of sale of more nuclear war heads to Israel. The priest received a public trial and was branded an anti Semite which carries a sentence of death by firing squad. The Canadian Council on Terrorism executed the assassin in a televised national broadcast and enforced a curfew on the nation until after the funeral and burial and appointment of the new leader of Canada. For nineteen days the entire country was in lockdown and all people had to be in doors at 5:00pm, violation of curfew carries a mandatory five year prison term without charge or trial.
Canada signed the Water Protection Treaty on November 17, 2022 with the Americans, which gave us our sovereignty and freedom from attack and the Americans received exclusive rights our water; a water for security agreement. This kept us safe for awhile, a treaty of appeasement some called it but, it worked until Canadians began to vanish. The Americans began collecting Canadians at the borders as part of its War on Terror but, they were Arabs so the Canadian government acted as partner, friend and supporter in destroying the threat of terrorism. Within five years the description of a terrorist began to change and the Americans began crossing the border and kidnapping people at demonstrations and anti-war rallies and student meetings and humanitarian gatherings, anywhere there was an assembly of Canadians was perceived as a threat to American national security. Canadians began disappearing off the streets, vanishing from their classrooms, like a puff of smoke fathers, brothers and sons were gone. Gone.
The terrorist threat seemed to spread and encompass all manner of life in North America to include livestock, humans, property, wealth and even family names. The IGBA began confiscating living food from the farmers and ranchers claiming the terrorists were hiding in the vast farmlands to evade capture by Homeland Security and they intended to starve them out of hiding. In the underground we've obtained documentation to prove that the animals were taken to ranches across the former US and distributed among IGBA run farming and food operations to feed their population. Hunger began to set in and the absence of meat was supplemented with rodent eating which began the spread of disease, viruses that devoured the intestinal track and left the corpses smelling with a stench so ghastly that disease control workers were forced into retching fits that led to many of them dying from dysentery. Death begets death.
Family names with an American heritage were confiscated and registered as the intellectual property of the IGBA, claiming that the history and heritage of the people of the former USA was being threatened by unrecognized aliens. A list of hundreds of banned surnames was filed with the courts, names like Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy; anyone with these banned names was charged with fraud and theft and forced to relinquish all rights to their name, waive the use of it as part of their identities and legally acknowledge the IGBA ownership of the name. In protest those affected refused to choose a new family name and kept their surnames blank which began to wreak havoc on consensus and revenue Canada which became the shield that protects all of us who have gone underground. We took no names with us and left our identities on the surface.
Then the women began to disappear. Children were found at parks, wandering and wailing for their mothers who were scooped up and taken right before their eyes. When the women began to go missing, the Canadian leaders began to get nervous and attempted to dialogue with the IGBA to locate the prisoners and negotiate the release of our citizens. The IGBA stalled and stonewalled and threatened and the Canadians back pedalled and more people were taken. The new target was nurses. The health care system in the US was barren and desperate for medical professionals and nurses are more valuable than doctors because one nurse has the skills to administer the service of several doctors. Part of the IGBA strategy was to weaken the Canadian health care system and make us vulnerable to cave to their demands for our natural resources; what fear doesn't accomplish desperation and need will complete. Hospitals began closing, beds were on a moratorium and zero overnight stays regardless of the illness or surgery performed, there simply wasn't the space, resources and medical professionals.
Cancer treatments, including chemo were administered by roaming doctors that drove around like taxis from sick home to sick home and the nurses kept vanishing. Families became desperate and people died for lack of medical care. The entire health care system began to crumble and disease started spreading, a new strand of the Tuberculosis virus appeared and ravaged every town and city across the country, and with a compromised medical system unable to stem the spread of the disease, five hundred thousand people died. I lost my father and mother, two of my sisters, my son, a dozen friends and countless neighbours; entire families and dozens of towns were wiped out entirely. Mass graves were dug on every corner for us to bury our dead with no pomp and no ceremony not even a tomb stone or a prayer, the bodies had to be buried immediately to stem the spread of the virus. Only in this pit of hell did the Canadian government find the motivation to sanction the Americans and demand the return of four thousand Canadian citizens or all water shipments to the IGBA would be suspended immediately.
That's when the American bombs began to fall. They weaken us with disease and death and fear and then they kill us from the sky because the cowards won't meet us on the ground to fight a fair fight. The bombs started four years ago and our former nation of Canada has been absorbed by IGBA and I disappeared into the underground resistance three years ago to fight their domination and bring back democracy to our nation.
The peace and quiet that we had for so many blessed centuries in Canada is gone and we are now slaves to the IGBA but, we fight. Like my old hometown, I no longer have a name either. I'm a number followed by a few dashes and symbols to protect from capture and we plot and execute bombings, murders, assaults, thefts, anything to undermine the IGBA. We intend to destroy the enemy and reclaim our country from their clutches and give it back to our people.
They call me a terrorist. I call them the enemy.
