Inventive Recipes for Hot Dog Lovers

Christopher Edelen
Some people might say, who really loves hot dogs anyways? Well, I do. I have found many ways to use hot dogs in everyday meals and I will share these with you today. My passion for hot dogs came from the need to find a cheap meat. I am a current college student and don't have the time or the money to go shopping all the time. So what I ended up doing was buying 2-3 packs of hot dogs every time I went to the supermarket. The fun part came from my imagination. Whenever I was missing a certain ingredient for a recipe, I would substitute hog dog meat if it was appropriate. Here's 3 of my personal favorites in no specific order.

Hot Dog Burritos- No time to get to the store? My simple suggestion, use hot dogs. My favorite way to make this is simple. Cook your hot dogs however you like them, either by boiling water or cooking it on the grill. Next, take out your tortilla wrap and heat them up also. Pull out your cheese of choice, I prefer grated provolone, and sprinkle it onto your wrap. Then, put your cooked hot dogs on top of the cheese, and grab any condiments you enjoy normally with your hot dogs. I like both ketchup and mustard, so I squirt both of these on top and then I close the wrap over the hot dogs and enjoy.

Eggs and Hot Dogs- In my experience the best way to cook the eggs would be to go scrambled or omelette style for this recipe. So start to cook the eggs, and bring your hot dogs out of the fridge. I recommend 2 hot dogs for about 3- 4 eggs. When the hot dogs are finished being cooked, chop them up and mix them into the eggs. If you like cheese like I do, add your favorite kind and mix that in also. I like my eggs with some ketchup, so I suggest this to all people who are trying this recipe for the first time. If you like other condiments like salt and pepper or anything else, go for it. Don't forget to be creative.

Macaroni and Cheese with Hot Dogs- This recipes a popular one with most college students. It's cheap to buy and even easier to make. Buy any kind of macaroni and cheese you like. I like classic elbows but I do know some people prefer the shells. Follow the directions on the side of the macaroni and cheese box to prepare that portion of the meal. Then, make the hot dogs however you like them. Once both of these things are done, cut up the hot dog meat into small pieces and dump them into the macaroni and cheese bowl. Now as an added bonus, I like to put a touch of tomato sauce in too. If this interests you, go ahead and try it, otherwise stir everything well and then grab yourself a fork and enjoy.
