Today is the day for more advanced yogis and yoginis to start off with yoga inversions. Inversions simply mean things like handstands, headstands etc. The first time you attempt to start a headstand, you will want to be close to the floor. Place your arms and hands shoulder-width apart and slowly bend forward to place the crown of your head on the ground. Walk you toes up and gently lift them on top of your elbows. Do not put too much weight on your head, but rather your hands. You are not standing on your head, but rather using your head as a triangle point between your two hands and arms. When you have placed your knees behind your elbows, hold the beginning headstand for a few seconds. After those seconds have passed and you are feeling that you are done, carefully place your toes back upon the floor and come into a place where you are on all fours.
I just started the beginning headstand pose today. Much later on as I progress, I will be able to lift my body off of the floor with legs extended straight into the air. However, everything comes with time and practice! Good luck with your yoga and keep on stretching! Whatever happens, do not get discouraged, because getting discouraged will only persuade you not to try!

Post a CommentYoga is such great exercise, and inverted poses are so beneficial. I will have an article published soon that features the Inverted Lake Pose aka the Legs Up the Wall pose. This is a super-easy pose that anyone can do and reap tremendous benefits. I hope you will have a look! :) Good instructions on the headstand (which I could never do no matter how in-shape I may have been! ;)
I remember when I could do moves like that. Good memories. Thanks for reminding me Kady B.
Some yoga I can do. However that position would make me so dizzy, that I would need time to focus.
