Ion Hair Color with Gray Coverage Review

Rebecca Said
Ion hair color is sold at Sally Beauty Supply for about $5 for a 2 oz. bottle. Ion has a good reputation for making quality hair products, so I decided to try it out. On front of the box it says, "Ion Color Brilliance. Liquid permanent hair color. 100% flawless gray coverage." Ion hair coloring is used in upper scale professional salons, so it is very good. Another benefit of Ion hair color is the very natural looking shades. My hair is normally a blonde. It is kind of brassy looking with a few slightly different colors. I decided to use Ion hair color to change to a wonderful even shade of warm golden brown.

Normally I purchase the Loreal professional hair color, and I can just purchase any generic developer. With Ion hair color you actually need to purchase the Ion developer to go with it. You can choose between 10, 20, 30 or 40. The numbers represent the strength of the developer. In general, you would choose a 10 if you want to go very dark. 30 and 40 developer are for very light. It may sound a bit confusing, but there is actually a chart right in the box that will help you decide what is right for you. These developers have wheat germ protein to help condition your hair while coloring.

Ion hair color is simple to prepare. I mix the 2 oz. liquid hair color with 2 oz. of developer in a plastic measuring cup. Then I put on my gloves and pour mixture into a plastic bottle. At this point it is ready to apply to your hair. Then let it sit for up to 45 minutes.

On side of box it says, "Brilliant shine. refreshing fragrance. True to shade color and tones. Fade resistant color." I am very pleased with the results of the Ion hair color. I believe it is much better than Loreal. First of all, it provides much better gray coverage. When I use Loreal I can always expect to see some gray left over. With Ion hair color there is absolutely no gray to be found at all. I was actually very surprised by this, but I have no gray whatsoever. Ion hair color also leaves your hair feeling much softer. I guess it is all the conditioners in the Ion hair color formula to protect your hair. My hair looks very natural, healthy and shiny. I will definitely start using Ion hair color on a regular basis.

Ion hair color ingredients: laureth-3, water, alcohol denatured, propylene glycol, sodium laureth sulfate, oleic acid, ammonia, fragrance, ethanolamine, sodium sulfite, erythorbic acid, lauryl alcohol, tetrasodium edta, peg-15 cocopolyamine, myristyl alcohol, tbho, glycerin, triticum vulgare (wheat) germ protein.
