Iowa DOT Shuts Down Roads Due to the Recent Flooding

Don't Drive Through Flooded Waters in Iowa

Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has shut down additional roadways as a result of heavy flooding throughout Iowa. The flooding makes it hazardous to operate a vehicle on a lot of the roads throughout Iowa with all the current rainfall that's dropped in the region. According to the Iowa DOT, the subsequent roadways are limited or blocked from vehicle travel:

Interstate 35 throughout Story County

The southbound roads of I-35 are shut down just to the south of Ames, Iowa. As a result of additional highway closures, a prolonged detour is set up which stretches from U.S. 30 east to U.S. 65 south to Iowa highway 330 and to the south to I-80 at Altoona, Iowa.

U.S. 30 in Story County

The eastbound and westbound roads of U.S. 30 between I-35 and U.S. 69 are shut down from all vehicle travel.

U.S. 69 in Story County

The highway is shut down from Riverside Rd. just north of Ames, Iowa to Story County Road E-23 the Gilbert exit.

Iowa 2 within Fremont County

The right lane eastbound is shut down between Interstate 29 along with the Nebraska state line.

Iowa 44 within Dallas County

The roadway between Dallas County Road R-22 and Iowa 144 is currently limited to one lane of vehicle travel.

Iowa 92 within Mahaska County

The road in between Mahaska County Road T-25 and Iowa 163 is actually shut down in both directions.

Iowa 92 within Mahaska County

The highway is currently closed in between Iowa 23 and Mahaska County Road V-13.

Iowa 117 within Jasper County

The road in between Jasper County Road F-48 and Interstate 80 around Colfax is shut down.

U.S. 61 within Lee County

The road near U.S. 136 is going to shut down starting at 10 a.m.

U.S. 63 within Mahaska and Wapello Counties

Vehicle travel is limited to 1 lane of traffic in every single direction.

According to Iowa DOT, the roads will be closed until the water starts to recede and clear from the roadways. For current up-to-date road closings in Iowa you can visit www.511ia.org or call 511. If you encounter flooding you should avoid driving through it and turn around and find an alternate route, if at all possible.
