iPad 2: 5 Settings You Must Change to Make Your iPad Less Annoying

5 Settings that You Should Change on Your iPad

The iPad 2 is an excellent tablet, but just as with any other gadget that you buy, some of its default settings just won't do. Following are several iPad 2 default settings that should be changed immediately to make the iPad 2 less annoying.

Auto-Lock = Never

If you bought a Smart Cover along with your iPad 2, there is a setting that you should immediately change in your iPad 2's General settings: Auto-Lock = Never. The Smart Cover accessory automatically puts your tablet to sleep and wakes it up when it's uncovered so there's really no need to set your iPad to automatically cut off is 15 minutes or less - which sometimes gets in the way of reading eBooks, browsing the internet, and other tasks.

Use Side Switch to = Mute

When it comes to using the iPad 2's Side Switch, the community is equally divided between using it for Mute or Lock Rotation. From my experiences using the first and second generation iPads, I've found that it's best to set the Use Side Switch's setting to Mute. Odds are that you'll need to lock your iPad's rotation a lot more than you'll need to mute and setting your Use Side Switch's settings to Mute will allow you to have easy access to the lock rotation options in the multitasking pane while still giving you the option to quickly mute your iPad 2 using the Side Switch.

Keyboard-Auto-Correction = Off

The iPad's Auto-Correction feature will drive you absolutely insane if you don't immediately disable it. The Auto-Correction feature was designed to automatically spell words correctly, but I've found that it's best to use spellcheck instead because Auto-Correction will get things wrong the majority of the time and have you going back to correct the iPad's Auto-Corrections often.

Sounds-Keyboard Clicks = Off

If you're not using an external keyboard for your iPad [you should probably buy one], you'll notice that every time you press a key on the iPad's inbuilt QWERTY keyboard, a clicking sound is made. I find the clicking sound of the inbuilt keyboard presses slightly annoying - it's not like it's necessary or anything - and I strongly recommend disabling this setting if you feel the same way that I do.

Safari-AutoFill = Off

I spend a great amount of my time on the iPad 2 within the Safari web browsing app and if you've ever browsed the internet with Safari AutoFill setting on, you're already familiar with how "eye-gougingly" annoying this setting is. When you're typing in Safari's search bar or on a webpage, the AutoFill setting will automatically correct what you're typing and unless you manually press on the suggestion, it'll automatically assume that what its suggestion is correct - when in actuality, it's wrong 99% of the time.
