Why You Should Put a Passcode on Your iPad

If you own and iPad and haven't put a passcode on it yet, you should probably stop reading this article and do so now. After you're done putting a password on your iPad, return to discover why you should password protect your iPad.

Protection Against Theft

Having an iPad stolen is a thought that is hard for most of us to think about, but with all of the hype surrounding Apple's "magical" tablet, it's a thought that we all need to consider and take seriously - in fact, theft is such a big concern that Apple created Find My iPad in order to help owners find their lost tablets. While putting a passcode on your iPad won't stop a thief from stealing your tablet, it'll prevent thieves from having access to your tablet and all of the sensitive data on it while you use Find My iPad to find it.

Privacy

Regardless of what you bought your iPad for or how you use it, it's safe to assume that you wouldn't want the information on your tablet to fall into the wrong hands. Your iPad holds your contact's information, has access to your email, and you've likely opted for Safari to remember the information of websites that you frequent - and you might not want any and every one to have access to all of that personal data. It's important to stay safe from identity thieves and regular thieves, but you'll also need a password to keep your personal info away from the eyes of friends, family, coworkers, and other associations as well.

Passwords Keep People Away

While protecting your identity and personal information from thieves, family, friends, and others is a very important reason to password protect your iPad, there's another very simple, yet practical, reason why you should password protect your iPad; having a password will keep people off of your "magical" tablet. You might not think that your roommate, spouse, children, friends, parents, or even coworkers, would go behind your back and use your iPad without your permission, but once you put a password on it, you'll notice that more and more people start asking you what your password is - these are the same people that were using your iPad freely before you opted to input a passcode.
