iPad Apps They Should Create: My 5 Most Wanted iPad Apps

There seems to be an iPad app for just about everything you can imagine. In May of 2010 TechCrunch reported finding 5,405 iPad apps including both iPad only apps and universal apps that work on the iPad and the iPhone or iPod Touch.

There are some real humdingers out there like the Bubble Snap app that attempts to replicate the fun of popping bubble wrap bubbles. You can even pop bubbles competitively and it will keep your score. This iPhone app is completely free, apparently just like the schedule of those people who try it.

There's also the Fireplace HD app that can get you in the mood for, oh I don't know, saving up for a house with a real fireplace? It's a $1.99 though so you'd be better off just closing your eyes and putting two bucks in your fireplace savings jar.

I am sure these obscure iPad apps have their audiences but I have a list of very important, practical iPad apps I wish they would create.

A "name that movie from very vague descriptions" iPad app:

You know those moments when your friend says that she just watched a movie and you have to see it but then the conversation goes something like this:

"It has that guy in it, oh what was his name, he looks like the guy from the HBO special about the shrink but it's not him and then it has that lady that did that dance in the movie with the guy that was also in that movie with Meryl Streep." Thanks, I'll take this description straight to Red Box and I am sure I'll find it.

The emergency recipe creator iPad app:

I know there are tons of recipe apps available but I need one not for Sunday Brunch recipes but for emergencies. I want to be able to type in ingredients I have, amount of time I have and how many people have just showed up unexpectedly. For example,

"What can I make with a box of Jiffy mix, 2 limes, leftover peas, soy sauce and half a jar of applesauce. I have 20 minutes and it looks like seven people are staying for dinner."

The witty parent comebacks iPad app:

I want an app that records comments my kids make to me and immediately gives me a witty but mature comeback for things like "You should ask Karen how she cooks her green bean casserole" or "Are you really wearing those shoes?"

It would also help with questions like"Why do you need to get highlights again? Isn't the gray highlighting your hair?"Of course my children would never have any reason to ask something like this. I am just thinking about my friends. It's not all about me.

A pocketbook scanner iPad app:

Yes, I want an app that scans the bag or purse of the day and tells me what I am missing. As I switch from big shoulder bags to tiny handbags to fanny packs and back to my favorite Vera Bradley, I want an app that will scan the bag and make sure I have everything I needed to transfer including a check book, debit card, business cards, emergency Maxi pad, Midol, pen, gum, tissues, tons of Neosporin and sunglasses. Oh, I almost forgot. I need to have photos of my kids and dogs and lip gloss.See I really need this purse scanner app. I almost forgot the most important things. This is an iPad app they should make pronto.

An app to help my kid's calculate age reasonably:

When I say something like "I saw Huey Lewis and the News in concert when I was thirteen," I want my kids to be able to put in even my guestimated age and not assume that Huey Lewis would certainly be long dead or else be 130 years old by now based on my having been to his concert in approximately 1983. Although I do realize that when they see a Mick Jagger clip and I tell them that "I saw Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones when I was 18" and that he was probably like 80 then, it has probably skewed their thinking.
