It has been talked about, blogged about and much anitcaped by many, spring 2010 is set to see the release of Apples first eBook reader. As soon as Apple unleashes the rumored iPad, there will be some adequate competion for the eBook reader industr.

Many firms have been manufacturing these devices for years, Sony, Franklin and Amazon were the biggest, but they all seemed to lack all the features that a potential buyer would like to see. As well as over charging for free content and over restricting the network itself. The iTunes app store model is a great system to follow allowing media to be purchased for the device with relative ease. One thing that has stifled the growth of other such readers has been overly restricted content and no cross platform compatibility, hopefully Apple can make amends to this.

Apple's reader will have ebook reading software (hopefully an e-ink screen to make it easier on the eyes) and iPhone OS software. inquisitively, Fujitsu have a device called the iPad, a point-of-sale card reader. Although something like this won't stop Apple from getting what it wants, it may make it a bit harder to retain rights to the iPad trademark, making me thing it will be called something else. Naming the device something else may not be a bad idea as the iPad jokingly sounds like a feminine product.

The iPad also won't just be an e-book/Internet reader. It' will be a fantastic media player-an iPod with a larger screen, the perfect thing for watching a movie on the go. A clever marketing strategy should make this the next must have apple product to compliment your iPod, iPhone, and iMac.

According to the IDC predictions, they are just waiting for Steve Jobbs to sign on the dotted line. Expecting Apple to make the announcement at the Keynote in the end of January. With a $699 price tag, plus subcription fee the new device is hardly price accesbiliy, but the good thing that could come from this will be other manufactures producing devices that are also compatible with the iTunes store if Apple are to allow it.
