IPhone 3G Security Flaw Revealed

Two cyber-security experts revealed on Thursday a serious security flaw in the Apple iPhone 3G S. All that is need is for a hacker to send a single character text message and embedded code that would render the iPhone useless.

After the iPhone receives the text message it's disconnected from the network and taken over. A hacker can then take over all of the iPhone functions including compromising all your personal data. The iPhone can also send out similar infected text message to everyone in your contact phone book and infect their iPhone. The process is then repeated over-and-over again.

Two cyber-security experts at Black Hat conference in Las Vegas said that hackers could develop code in as little as two weeks to exploit the weaknesses in the iPhone's operating system. The cyber-security experts wrote code to exploit the weakness of iPhones on four networks in Germany as well as AT&T in the US.

The problem can be fixed in two ways; either by issuing a patch for the security flaw in the phone's operating system or by network providers scanning for messages that look like they are gaining access to phones via the malicious code.

Apple has been aware of the security flaw for a while now but has not done anything about it. It has been learned, for a UK network operator 02, that Apple will be issuing a security patch soon for this flaw.

In the meantime if anyone receives a single character text message, immediately shut off your phone to prevent the malicious code from taking over your phone.
