So what exactly is the difference between the four types of iPods? Let's start with the most basic model the iPod shuffle. The iPod shuffle also known as "the world's smallest music player" is designed to be a convenient bare bones version of the iPod. The small size is also related to its small but formidable storage capacity of anywhere from 2 to 4 gigabytes. So how many songs does it hold? Well depending on the individual song size it averages out to about 1,000 songs. The shuffle like the other iPods also comes in a variety of colors to give your music a little bit of flavor. Apple store current price $59.00-79.00.
The next in line is the iPod Nano. The Nano is a much more visually developed version of the Shuffle and has slightly better storage capacity. The hard drive capacity of the iPod Nano is either 8 gigabytes or 16 gigabytes which is approximately 2,000 to 4,000 songs. The newer features of the iPod Nano also allows it to hold 8 to 16 hours of video and has a built in camera on the base of the iPod. The high resolution LCD screen of the iPod Nano allows for great video and picture viewing. Apple store current price: $149.00-179.00.
The third breed is the iPod Classic. The capacity is what sets this iPod apart from the rest coming in at a whopping 160 gigabytes of storage. So what does this equate to in songs? Give or take just about 40,000 of your favorite mp3s. So basically you will be working a long time to fill that baby up with music unless you have an extra 3,000 CD's lying around. The iPod classic like the iPod Nano also holds pictures and videos but a large quantity of about 25,000 photos and 200 hours of video. Apple store current price $199.00-399.00.
Lastly we have the almighty and powerful iPod touch. The iPod touch is a highly customizable feature filled piece of technology. The hard drive capacity comes in three sizes 8gigabytes, 32gigabytes and an unbelievable 64 gigabytes. I think by now you probably get the idea of how many songs and data this could hold. The features that really set the iPod touch apart are the 3.5inch (diagonal) touch screen, WIFI connection capability and TV video outputs. These features allow for a much more video oriented type of music player.
So there you have it. Those are the latest iPod facts and features currently to date. Hopefully this article will allow you to decide what iPod is right for you. Remember the iPod facts and features are always changing so the next new iPod may already be in production. It might be time to upgrade that old iPod!
