IPod Nano 4GB Review

Thinking MP3 Players Were a Silly Pleasure, I Now Find I Cannot Live Without My IPod Nano!

Amy Gayle
After joining a gym and seeing all of the MP3 players that were being toted around by the various patrons sweating it up, I decided maybe I should purchase one for myself. Now, MP3 players are like cars. There are so many different types to choose from. I was worried that I was going to spend hard earned money on junk, so I decided to go with the original Mac Daddy MP3 player, the iPod.

Wanting something compact and easy to tote around, I decided on the iPod Nano 4GB. Many people had told me that 2GB MP3 players were not enough space to really load up with songs, so looking into a 4GB was a definite must. I shopped around for the iPod Nano 4GB and I saw they were running approximately $150 at Walmart stores. The bargain shopper in me knew that I could probably find this product cheaper used on eBay, so I went home and began to surf.

Now, typing in "iPod" on an eBay search is like typing in "money" on a Google search! You're going to get tens of thousands of responses, so you need to be very specific. I typed in "used iPod Nano 4GB" and it narrowed the results to hundreds instead of tens of thousands. Most of the hundreds are refurbished iPods and I, personally, didn't want to take the risk with that, so I found one that had been used very minimally. After bidding on it, I won it for under $100. It didn't come with any accessories but the USB cord, so I went out and purchased headphones and the outlet adapter for charging. Let me tell you, there are so many iPod accessories out there, people!

Now, onto the review. The iPod Nano 4GB is simple and easy to use! I didn't have an instruction booklet or anything to come along with it and I'm an idiot when it comes to electronics sometimes. Hence, the reason I was so unsure about getting such a product in the first place. I had to simply download iTunes from the Internet and input my compact discs. iTunes is a free download, FYI. Then you connect your iPod to your computer and, BAM, it syncs the selected iTunes music onto your iPod in a very short amount of time.

With a push of the button, you're off and running on your iPod. It starts you on the main menu. There is a circle on the front of the iPod Nano that you use to control the device. the middle of the circle is the "enter" button. The outside of the circle is touch sensitive, so to scroll, you just run your finger around the circle. That also adjusts the volume when you're listening to something.

The battery power lasts really well, and it charges fairly quickly. I'm glad I ended up buying a 4GB. When looking around, I thought that a 2GB was definitely enough space for my needs, but boy, was I wrong! I have plenty of space on my 4GB for my needs. I have even put a book on CD onto my iPod Nano 4GB and there is still plenty of space on there.

The one thing that I wish the iPod Nano 4GB had was an off button. It does turn itself off, but when you're running low on battery and want to conserve what you have left, it'd be nice to turn it off quickly to save the power. If it does this and I just don't know how yet, please leave me a comment on how to turn it off without letting the device turn itself off.

As compared to other iPods, I love that the Nano is so compact! It is seriously just a little bigger than a stick of gum! It's not bulky when you need to stick it in a pocket or in your bag. I do not like the ear bud headphones that so many people love. They do not stay in my ears. Most people don't have a problem with them, so I must have weird ears. I personally hate the ear bud headphones.

I ask myself all the time, "How on earth did you live without your iPod for so long?" I know that I could live without it, but why would I want to? As someone that likes to go to a gym, it's a wonderful thing to have. You don't have to tote around a big CD player and you aren't limited to one CD of songs. Whatever your mood, you can jump to that type of music and enjoy! Another nice thing is that there is an adapter so that you can listen to your iPod in your car. No more listening to the radio and flipping channels until you find what you want or having to listen to commercials.

As you can tell from my review, I love my iPod Nano 4GB. I give it 4 1/2 out of 5 Tiaras on the Amy Gayle Scale. It loses half a Tiara for not having that "off" button. IF someone can find it, I give the iPod Nano 4GB 5 out of 5 Tiaras!

So if you've been a person who has been hesitating, I would recommend this item to everyone!

to turn it off all you have to do is hold down the play/pause button for 3-4 seconds and it'll turn off.
