iPod Touch / iPhone Applications for Moms

Rachel Soden
Having a PDA is a very useful tool for moms these days. The iPod Touch works wonderfully as a PDA. The following are some applications available for the Touch and iPhone that are useful for moms.

Intuition is a free application that contains a calendar. On this calendar you can list tasks. In addition you can use the map function to map out your route for when you have errands to run. They also have a community tips section that has several topics on ideas and sharing tips.

iXpenseIt is an invaluable resource for budgeting. You can use it simply as an expense tracker or you can use it for a budget device. You can create several budgets such as home, vacation, business, etc. You can also input your expenses as you accumulate them and generate reports to email to yourself. This helps you see where your money is going and where you can cut expenses.

ShoppingList is an application that as the name implies lets you create shopping lists. You can create multiple lists. Input the items you need to purchase and it saves it in the database to use again later. Add categories so you can sort your items such as dairy, grains, meats, etc. Once you get to the store, check the item off when you get it and it will disappear to the bottom of the list.

mSecure is a program for inputting sensitive information such as passwords, serial numbers, prescription numbers, bank account numbers, website logins, insurance information, and vehicle information. Make sure to password protect it for extra security!

Units is a conversion application for converting different units. This made it on to the list as I was in the grocery store yesterday and had to find out how many ounces were in a gallon.

Gift Guru

The iPod Touch has many effective applications for busy moms.

is a good way to keep track of gift ideas for your children and family members. Allrecipes application works well to come up with dinner ideas. Are your children bored in the car? Hand them the DoodleBuddy app and let them free draw pictures. Better yet, input a picture into the program and let them draw a mustache and horns on your photo. You can also buy/rent movies from the iTunes store and there are a lot of games that can be downloaded from the iTunes store.

While you are at it, don't forget to download one of the eBook readers such as eReader so you can read a book while waiting in line.
