IPod Touch is the Perfect IPod

New Buzz for Apple

Michael Kingsley
You heard about it from friends. You've seen the commercials on TV. The iPod touch is here! We've seen and heard it all before, haven't we? In the past, Steve Jobs would get up on stage to announce to the world all the new iPods and the millions, no make that billions of songs that we can hold. Then the video presentation spreads across the Internet, via YouTube, like a jack rabbit on crack. Then we get bombarded with commercials with cool, hip songs playing in the background, displaying the products features. But the problem in the past has been it's still an iPod, except it would hold a trillion more songs than the previous model. Do we really need it to hold a quadrillion songs? Even Saturday Night Live got in on the game by having a skit mocking the iPod and how ridiculous it was to have an Apple MP3 Player that can hold a Googolplex of music and video.

But this year is different. Steve Jobs and crew finally got it right. They are moving ahead, via listening to what we want. The iPod touch serves as the new frontier of MP3 players that pushes the envelope. The question I'm sure you have is, "What's in it for me?" This is what I am going to discuss in this article. I'm going to try my hardest not to get too involved in features, only benefits. I want to state the case for this new product from Apple that I, for one, am really excited about.

"The revolutionary iPod touch puts entertainment - and the Internet - at your fingertips", is the slogan from Apple. But what does that mean for you? How is this small, sleek device going to alter your life for the better? First I think we need to discuss what our current situation looks like.

Most of us already have an MP3 player of some degree, right? Well, at least 100 million of us do. We use it for all our music downloaded from iTunes, to watch movies and television (if we're lucky enough to have a video capable one), and to store our photos. If we are not one of the fortunate to have a video iPod or similar product for watching video when on the road, we are forced to buy a DVD player to watch our movies and other video. On top of that, if we want to surf the Internet while we are away from home, we have to bring along the laptop. So, we have three devices, a bunch of electrical cords, DVD discs, and a soar back having to lug them all around.

So the first benefit lies within the concept behind the iPod touch, it's an all-in-one device. Here's where I do a brief feature plug...it's a device that plays music, stores your photos, plays videos, and allows you to surf the Internet...end of feature plug. Let's analyze what this means for you. By owning this iPod product, you now have one device to grab when you leave the house. You only have to bring one gadget with you on that long plane trip. It means you don't have to waste time trying to find all your electronic toys. You won't have to hunt down DVD discs. It will all be on this small device. It means you won't have to get stressed out and frustrated. You can relax. Less stress means you will treat people better, being kinder. In turn, those people will treat others with more kindness...and on. If you really think about it, the invention of this product could bring about world peace!

Still not convinced? Isn't world peace enough? Let's discuss another situation then. When we want to put music on our iPod, what is the process? We hear a song we like on the radio, at the coffee house down the street, or on TV. We write it down (if we're not at home), head over to the computer to download it through iTunes, Reach around to the back of our computer to plug in our iPod, and then upload it. Seems like a lot of steps, huh? Should I even mention that half the time we lose the piece of paper or napkin that we wrote the name of the song on?

Benefit two is presented in the feature called wi-fi (surf the Internet). The iPod touch allows you to surf the Internet with ease. This means you can buy songs or albums wirelessly with the included version of iTunes. Hear a song you like at the coffee shop, pull out your iPod touch and download it. No need to write it down, waiting until you get home to download. No need to go through the multiple steps involved in getting music on your MP3 player. No lost pieces of paper. What this means is that you now have a much more time saving option to getting the music you want, and transferring it to your iPod. More time to share with your kids and/or friends. More time to clean the garage that your wife has been nagging you about. More time to enjoy life!

Need more convincing? Let's discuss navigation. On most MP3 players, there is either a click wheel or some other type of small buttons you need to use to navigate. The buttons are small enough to be easily used by only a two year old. It's a pain! Plus, navigating all the different screens takes a lot of time. Time wasted getting upset and frustrated because you can't find a particular song or video to show to your friend.

This leads us to the last benefit I'll discuss, the navigation on the iPod touch. First I'll give the features rundown. The iPod touch does away with the click wheel and uses a touch screen for navigating the logical, intuitive menus. The interface has a feature called Cover Flow, which allows you to browse music more visually. Plus, the icons are large and colorful, making browsing a snap. There are a lot of other features, but you can go to the Apple website to watch the video to see it all in action. But what all this means for you is that everything is simpler. It means you can find anything you need in quick fashion. No frustrating searches for that favorite song or video. No anger because you can't find the volume controls for when the music is just too loud. It's all easy. Instead of having all these negative feelings, you can be happy, joyous, and free to listen to your music, watch a video, or surf the Internet.

I felt compelled to put all the features, bells and whistles, and technological jargon aside. One would think that all these technology companies would learn that technology jargon doesn't resonate with most of us. But I digress. Anyway, the bottom line is that the iPod touch is going to change the way you go about enjoying your media. You'll have less frustration and worry, you'll feel happier, be more relaxed, and simply enjoy life!
