IPod Touch Software - Thoughts on the IPod Touch Update

Tammy Forner
I recently updated my iPod Touch software to the new 3.0 software. The iPod Touch update will cost you $9.95. The question is whether it's worth it, or not to update the iPod Touch. Apple is advertising 15 new or updated features as apart of the new iPod Touch software. I originally was reluctant about spending the money for this iPod Touch update, but after testing some of the new features I have changed my mind. Some of the features I found worthy enough to spend the $9.95 for the 3.0 software are:

Sync Notes - The ability to sync notes for the iPod Touch user is well overdue. There are other apps that have filled the gap that Apple left when they first created the iPod Touch, but nothing works as well as the simplicity of an Apple created program. With the 3.0 software for the iPod Touch Apple closed this gap and has made students and writers alike much happier. The ability to sync notes has made this avid iPod Touch user very happy.

Cut, Copy, and Paste - The cut, copy, and paste feature is a much needed update to the iPod Touch software. I know that I will be using this more and more. While researching info on the internet I can copy and paste into the notes program, which then can be synced to my Mac. The sync notes and cut, copy and paste features alone in the 3.0 software are worth the price for writers, students, and for anyone else who needs casual on the go research capabilities.

Parental Controls - Although many iPod Touch users may never use this added feature, including myself, it was needed. There is an ever growing population of young iPod Touch users I know because my daughter who is only ten is one of them. She sold her Nintendo DS Lite, and all her DS games to buy her first iPod Touch, and she couldn't be happier with her choice to switch. As a parent of a younger user I feel this is a necessary feature and will be purchasing the update for her iPod Touch.

Landscape Keyboard - Although I have become use to typing on the smaller keyboard layout and infrequently make mistakes the landscape keyboard is much easier for writing.

Some of the other updates to the iPod Touch software are not quite as practical for me personally. The shake to shuffle your music library is not a necessary update to the iPod Touch software, but I can see that people that are on the move a lot will like the ability to change songs easily. I personally do not have the free time to play games that often so Apple's 3.0 software updates for Peer to Peer gaming and future game accessories are not going to be used much if at all by me, although I'm sure my daughter will enjoy these updates. I'm sure the Safari iPod Touch update is one that I will also use, although this updated feature alone would not have been enough to make this iPod Touch user want to spend the cash.
