One of the more popular mobile gadgets of today is the iPod. Both visually attractive and equipped for a range of digital files like games, music, applications, videos and more, the iPod is the ultimate all in one lifestyle gadget.

Just a visually attractive exterior does not suffice the needs of the avid iPod fans. Its utilities are becoming endless. Those possessing an iPod can easily download a wide array of content and can customize their gadget in effect to reflect their own aura. For example, an iPod owner browsing for entertainment may download the latest rock or hip-hop songs or even iPod movies. Special software like DVD to iPod converters are readily available that convert video files into the format compatible with iPod in minutes.

Music lovers are rarely seen without iPods these days. They might not possess an Apple manufactured, but having an iPod has become more like a passion among the young generation. IPod has its advantages of not only providing a great user-friendly music gadget interface, but also a device to download other type of content too. Be it movies, wallpapers, screensavers, software or even advanced games, iPods offer every computer-related content to be used via its interface. It is like a mobile mini-computer for users where they can surf the internet also.

In order to load content into an iPod, users can either download it directly from various websites offering such content or convert any offline content to the one that is supported by the iPod, which is usually done with software downloads via P2P (peer-to-peer) connections. Although P2P software is a useful application to have, users need to be aware of the unwanted installation of different kind of viruses or corrupted files along with the usual download. Therefore, an active up-to-date antivirus program is always recommended to avoid security problems.

Another thing to consider is that your iPod may not be compatible with certain applications available for download over the internet, owing to the manufacturer's firmware. However, certain special software can prevail over this situation, an event known as "jail breaking". It should be noted that jail breaking your iPod is legal, and it is just a misnomer. Many websites dealing with iPods often mention this term for making your iPod more compatible with commonly used software.

IPods are limited in their storage capacity to some extent. If users need to add more content to their device, there are many types of add-on memory cards available for iPods.

One thing you need to avoid is attempting unauthorized unlocking of the iPods, as it is considered illegal by law. If you are a proud possessor of an iPod, you must know how to keep it going all the time!
