Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Cancels Trip to United States and United Nations

Something Doesn't Smell Right..

Chaotic Ramblings
It seems that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad changed his mind about visiting the United Nations and speaking to the U.N. Security Council before they vote on sanctions against Iran for not stopping their uranium enrichment program. Yahoo! News says, "Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed Ali Hosseini told Iranian state television later in the day that the trip had been scrapped because of "America's obstruction in issuing visas" to the Iranian delegation that was to travel to New York." (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070323/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iran_nuclear_26)

This morning, March 23, 2007, Fox News Channel reported that an Iranian vessel had captured 15 British Navy personnel in Iraqi waters. (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,260583,00.html ) One has to wonder if Ahmadinejad has other plans for stopping the U.N. Security Council's sanctions on his country. This reminds me of Saddam Hussein's penchant of holding U.N. officials hostage, whenever they got close to something he didn't want found, in the U.N. inspections that occurred between 1990 and 2002.

There would be a ban on Iranian arms exports and a freeze of the assets of 28 additional individuals and organizations involved in Iran's nuclear and missile programs if the United Nations Security Council votes to impose sanctions on Iran.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he wanted to speak to the United Nations Security Council before they voted to impose sanctions on his country. Perhaps he hoped to offer the exchange of the unfortunate British Navy personnel in exchange for lighter sanctions. One can never be too sure when it comes to this obviously disturbed, dictator.

Fox News Channel reports that Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki will attend the U.N. Security Council in Ahmadinejad's place. (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,260585,00.html) The State Department says it issued 75 visas for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his entourage. Fox News Channel reports that Deputy spokesman Tom Casey denied that Ahmadinejad's cancellation had anything to do with visas. "Any suggestion that visa issues are the cause of President Ahmadinejad's decision not to travel to New York is false," he said. "Rather, it would appear that he is unwilling to stand before the Council and take the heat for his continued defiance of the international community."

So, Ahmadinejad was supposed to come to the United States, at the last minute, to speak before the United Nations Security Council in an effort to convince them that Iran only wants to pursue nuclear power for electricity. On the day before he is to arrive, Iran takes 15 British Navy personnel hostage and the Iranian President cancels his trip claiming that the United States did not provide the visas he and his entourage needed to enter the country. The State Department says they had all the visas ready for the Iranian President and his group of officials. I don't know about you, but this does not pass the smell test for me. Something is going on here and it won't be long until we find out exactly what that is.

Well, are we all ready to admit that cool heads and diplomacy won the day? And if you look objectively at Ahmadinejad and Bush, the similarities are at least worth noting.

Jeff, you are nuts. You may be schmarred, and edyoukated buhd yoo juzz haff wae to mutch bittirnis. Get some therepee before yoo do harm tu yerselph. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a very sick pup. The Iranians know it. Bush and him are not in the same league on a single smidgen of a thing. If you listen, you can hear the difference. Ahmadinejad lies like Bill Clinton...GWB just stands there and stares and thinks stuff about all the work he still has to do today while all these elitist fools waste his time trying to get another version of the same thing. Stay on point for as long as you can stand it, (nothing) Chaotic (about your) Ramblings.

The man is insane and I'd be happy if he would just climb in a hole and pull the dirt in over him. Everyone would be better off!

Ahmadinejad is a fool... and is becoming desperate. This was a stupid, stupid move, and is going to wind up costing him in his own nation. However, the West's response to the seizing of the British soldiers has been far too weak. Something hard needs to follow this idiocy, or the Islamofacists are going to see exactly what they want: a West that is ripe for the picking because we are too weak to do what needs to be done. I only pray that an end will come to this madman's rule before the West manages to make enemies of every Iranian citizen.

...obvously disturbed dictator who thinks he's playing a good game of chess.

  • Chaotic Ramblings3/23/2007

Jeff, I hope not. I think we are all sick of war.
