Iran's Nuclear Program is No Danger to U.S. Or Israel

Rick Hidalgo

On "Nuclear Technology Day" in Tehran, Iran Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that "Iran is getting closer to its stated goal of a peaceful nuclear energy program". This annoucement sent shockwaves to the hearts of Americans and Israelis alike. Bringing fear to the west that Iran was on the fringe of developing a nuclear weapon.

Behind much of western fears is a devout belief that modern day Iran represents Persia (Elam) in the Holy Bible. Elam, son of Shem is the grandson of Noah. The Elamites were fierce warriors that dominated the southwestern portion of Iran. Since those times, Iran has become a militant muslim country who's stated purpose is to erase the Nation of Israel from existence (this is a well documented goal of anti-zionist).

Of Course, the modern fuse was lit in 2001 after what many people believe to be an attack by muslim militants against the United States. Then President George W. Bush, made mention of Iran in the context of an "axis of evil" which he defined as "any nation that Harbors terrorist". These words are the basis of the fear that now grips the west. These fears were elevated when Iran made its nuclear program announcement.

In my opinion, I'm troubled by the constant fear that is propagated by the media as it spins words, without evidence to back it up, that Iran's true aspirations are to develop nuclear weapons. Can Iran secretly be planning to use its nuclear program for weapons? Sure it can. Will that be bad for the instability of the middle east? No. Iran is a sovereign country, if it chooses to have a nuclear program there is no body of authority that can deny it the opportunity. If they want to protect their interest why shouldn't they be allowed to? Should we not defend national sovereignty? We American would be outraged if Iran tried to enforce santions on us. What makes us think its ok to enforce our views on them? We simply can not police the world.

Remember, there is safety when power is in the hands of many and not controlled by a few. We used to believe that in America. Its time we do again. Iran is no threat to the U.S. or Israel.
