Iraq War: 5th Anniversary

Happy Anniversary Mr. President

Orchiolum
America's boot and stain are known
upon this distant soil
the president rules from stolen throne
defending the poverty of oil.

Corporate criminals reason war
their children safely home
America's young and patriot and poor
lured to sacrifice bone.

The soldier cradles the comrade's soul
betrayal scents this last embrace
the world's mourning church bells toll
profiteers lament defeat's disgrace.

Families weep the ancient tear
holding their fragments close
forever condemned to imagine the fear
of the silenced voice they loved most.

America's fields of cross and stone
are draped with flag and flower
memorials to those we've carried home
reminders of our power.

Your march of death no longer surprises
with it's cadence of greed and lie
America's voice and conscience rises
Her Dream now dimmed by bitter divide.

Should fire and justice ever return
to Liberty's torch instead
we'll see how quickly your legacy burns
and truth may honor our dead.

This is a stunning piece of literature! Politics aside, I am a Mother, and hate war...I have been reading some more of your poetry and am so moved by its pure beauty... there is soul music- you write soul poetry...

I commented on this poem before--on the day you published it. I'm glad I revisited it. It rings incessantly with insight. You capture your every meaning succinctly--so few words put together in such a way to express so much.
