Iridology is a Study of the Eye to Diagnose Health

Iridologists Look for Details of Health when Studying the Iris

Judy Kaelin
The writings of Hippocrates make reference to changes in and around the eye as pertains to disease. The iris is the color portion of the eye and is usually blue, brown, green or amber with shades varying from light to dark.

In 1860, as a boy of ten, Dr. Ignatz von Peczely tried to catch an owl in his backyard when he accidentally broke one of its legs. He immediately noticed a dark stripe develop in the lower part of the owl's iris. The young boy dressed the owl's leg, nursed it back to health and attempted to release it. However, the owl would not leave and a few weeks later the young man noticed that a white crooked line appeared where the dark strip had been in the owl's iris. This experience with the owl sparked the beginning of iridology.

Iridology is used as a diagnostic tool for both children and adults. By studying the eye, iridologists will observe color changes, patterns and defects that can reveal a patient's overall state of health, and possible future problems.

Every part of the body is represented in the iris with thousands of nerve endings which are connected to the brain via the hypothalamus where they act like a control panel, revealing conditions in various parts of the body.

Iridology is a very accurate and non-invasive way of discovering where a person's health problems originate and is a sensitive tool that can be used to pinpoint problems in the body often long before the appearance of symptoms.

On the basis of many years of comparative study and the observation of patterns of iris changes, Dr. Ignatz von Peczely (1822-1911) developed an iris "map" in which every organ had its proper place.

This "map" has been altered and updated through the years by many iris researchers and physicians, and is still used by iridologists to diagnose potential health problems.

"It is important for each individual to practice prevention, self-care and self-responsibility concerning their own health." Anonymous
