Irish Pubs in Maryland

Cathy Pelekakis
I live in Maryland and like everyone else we like to celebrate St PAtricks day with a little bit of Irish brew and Irish food. Be sure that you go to the St Patrick's Day Parade, drink plent of green beer and try some Baltimore flare to the Irish. We have several good restuarants in and around Baltimore so if you are in the area I would recommend that you visit one of the following

- Mick O'Shea's 328 N Charles St, Baltimore, MD 21201, there you will find a great little bar that has nine beers on tap, from Guinness to Yuengling, plus an Irish cider. You'll find that the dark paneling and rich leather seating. There you can also get fish and chips, shepherds pie, corned beef and cabbage and bangers and mash. you can also have a great Porterhouse steak. They have live Irish music Our Governor is a part of one band and when he feels in the mood he performs with them. It is a hoot.

-Travel a little further out toward Timonium, MD there is another Irish themed pub called, An Poitin Stil 2323 York Rd, Timonium, MD 21093 is worth the time to visit. We found out that the name An Poitin stood for Irish moonshine, it is not only a family restaurant but an Irish Pub too. You feel like you are in a Celtic Castle, Enjoy the typical Irish beers including Caffrey's, Guinness, Harp and Murphy's or any other distilled spirit at the bar. There are also great food and appetizers for your enjoyment.

- Downtown Baltimore plays host to the James Joyce Irish Pub & Restaurant 616 S President St, Baltimore, MD 21202 with rich dark tones. Stained glass windows and intimate table settings. They serve Harp, Newcastle Ale, Guinness, Bass Ale and James Joyce Amber just to name a few . Try the Irish potato soup or the smoked salmon both are great.

- A little bt to Baltimore's south in histroic Annaplis you will find Castlebay Irish Pub 193 Main St, Annapolis, MD 21401, this pub is just so nice, you will see mahogany surroundings and stained glass lamps hang from the ceiling. You can have sandwiches and burgers, traditional Irish dishes like shepherd's pie, , fish and chips, filet mignon. There are large oil paintings on the walls. The pub offers live Irish music most weekends, on Fridays and Saturdays, starting around 9PM.

I love Irish pubs! When I lived in South Carolina, I had a favorite pub I used to frequent. The atmosphere is so different from regular bars.

I have always wanted to go to an Irish pub. I ate lunch at a place that gave you that Irish feel, but it just wasn't good enough for me. These places sound wonderful though.
