In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, is the choice of Fidelity Mutual for their sixty-ish, animated flower, television commercial. It this really a good choice? With the business news freaking out over subprime loan institutions having major problems in the retreating real estate market, I wonder.
In-A-Godda-Da-Vida, by Iron Butterfly, was a late sixties classic. Heralded as the first heavy metal rock classic of all time. The original title of In-A-Godda-Da-Vida, was supposedly, In the Garden of Eden. Rock rumor has it that the, In Da Gadda Da Vida, pronunciation was due to alcohol/drug induced slurring during the recording session. While some unnamed sources mention that the live performances required considerable rehearsal by the lead singer, others imply that it was literally a no brainer for Doug Ingle.
Doug Ingle, lead vocals for Iron Butterfly, is reported to have said that it was an alcohol slurred utterance. Fans and others found greater insight and describe the lyric as apocryphal. This information is from Wikipedia, which may or may not be accurate given that Sinbad is still alive. His career thought seems to still be dead.
Given that, there is some evidence of alcohol/drug influence on the classic song. Is this really the image that a financial institution wishes to portray? Would you readily invest your money in a financial institution that had head bang-er music, albeit classic head bang-er music, blaring over the sound system instead of Muzac?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
Special Note: Due to the tragic loss of six brain cells in the author's left temporal lobe, Wikipeda had to be referenced for the correct spelling of In-A-Godda-Da-Vida.

Post a CommentDon't know how to answer the question. I'm not a huge "metal" fan (not sure if Iron Butterfly is
"metal"), but I think I would be attracted to dealing with a company cool enough to use music from "our" generation. I thought it was a Beatles song, so guess I need to do some research of my own. Wonder if YouTube has a copy of the comercial.
HMMM,trying to remember the song, but from what my brain pulls up, that might actually make sense. But since when does rock make sense anyway.
good article but i'm not a huge fan of the group
Then I may be behind the times.:)
I have never heard this, shall half to listen to it! Great article.
