Morimoto restaurant is a casual, upscale restaurant located in Downtown Philadelphia. Owned by renowned Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto and Stephen Starr, this attractive restaurant is not what it seems. Although the ambiance and decor is appealing and inviting, the menu prices and selections are not quite the same.
The prices range from high to higher. The food selections are minimal and uninviting. My guest and I had to search the menu for something we wanted to try. If you don't like seafood, this restaurant is not for you as the menu selections are made mostly of seafood.
I tried one house special drink and I wish I hadn't. The price was average but the taste was far below that. It didn't have any flavor yet left a bad aftertaste in my mouth.
I decided to try a seafood appetizer made from oysters. I receive four very small oysters. They had a light flavor that game me the feeling that I was eating some kind of diet food. I could have eaten the whole appetizer in two bites.
When we received our entrees we were again surprised at the size. There was barely anything there. My entree actually tasted great, but it was not worth the $38.
The customer service was average. There is nothing to rave about. I asked the waiter to take a picture of us and he said he could take one and if we didn't like it he could take one more. I haven't ever had a waiter give me a limit on the number of pictures s/he could take before the first one was taken.
The manager of the restaurant walked around the restaurant constantly. I knew he was the manager because he came over to my table to apologize for the dirty water glass. He didn't walk around introducing himself and ask how the service was though; he just walked around as if he was a stalker.
Parking was easy to find when we went (around 8pm on a Monday).
Overall, I would give this restaurant a 5 on a scale of 10 and I would not go again. If you decide to go, eat before hand that way you won't leave the restaurant hungry as we did.

Post a CommentHave to disagree strongly with this review. I have had wonderful dining experiences at Morimoto's in the past and the price is what one would expect for the quality and presentation of the food. Japanese food is traditionally heavily based on seafood, so one should expect as much when dining in a Japanese restaurant.
I have just eaten there and was very pleased with the food and the service's, The price was very high, But i did enjoy it and would go back..
Good to see some honest restaraunt reviews instead of the usual blatant self-promotion. Thanks!
