Is 2012 a Money Making Scam?

Mark Mielke
A disturbing new concept has been worming its way through the internet and society. Every day it strikes fear into the hearts of people around the world. It is the concept that the world will end in 2012. It has created widespread terror. It has caused panic in many societies. It has made an untold amount of money. You didn't expect that last one, did you? What if the entire 2012 concept is merely a mass scam to generate revenue? Before you dismiss me completely, let me remind you that quite a bit of money has been made since this concept was first introduced and this money has been made because the concept was introduced.

Many people who read this article and disagree with me will do so because they do not understand how money can be made off of the spread of the 2012 rumor. First off, let's start with the documentaries. I have seen at least a half dozen documentaries about the coming apocalypse of 2012. Each one earns ratings for it's network and, by extension, money. There has even been a major motion picture about it made. I'm sure it raked in millions for it's producers. I personally have made money off of writing articles about 2012. This article itself is an example of how money can be made off of a possible scam.

People will also disagree about how the scam could have been set up. They may argue that such a large and well known issue could not have been faked. But where is the evidence that it really is an issue? The main points are the Mayan calendar and the scientific community, which claims an alignment will happen in 2012. All it would take would be for the Government to pick a day that already has historical basis, such as the Mayan date for the end of the world, and give it some scientific "evidence" to back it up. Honestly, if the scientists say that so and so is true, how can we, the normal people, argue with them?

This would not be the first time the governments of the world have used propaganda and media to profit themselves. During the Vietnam war, footage of the war was shot in the jungles of Vietnam and could be viewed on television here in the states. I assure you, somebody made quite a profit from that. The same with global warming, politicians have made careers off of it, the entertainment business has made money off of movies about it.

I do not want to start rumors or try to discredit what may be an actual threat, but I believe people need to be smart when faced with such an issue. Use your heads! Do the proper research before you draw conclusions and always be wary for scams and propaganda trash.
