For anyone that believes in alternative medicine and can go in with an open mind, acupuncture is definitely worth trying. As scary as it may sound, it really isn't. Surprisingly (though I didn't believe it until I went through it first hand) it was quite relaxing. You are put on a table like at a doctor's office, you lay down and in my case are put under a sort of a heat lamp. The acupuncturist then begins putting in the needles in various parts of your body, just depends on what issue you are seeing them for. It's very quick actually, the time it takes them to put the needles in is nothing. I of course kept my eyes closed the whole time fearing the worst and that I would feel each prick, but honestly after the initial prick it all went so fast that I was amazed when she told me that she was done and that I had to just lay there for a half hour. That's probably the hardest part is just to lay there for a half hour and relax, at first this seemed like an impossible task. How was I supposed to lay there when I had needles sticking out of my body? I'll admit the first time I opened my eyes and saw some needles out of the corner of my eye, I freaked a bit. You would be amazed at how used to it you get and in no time become an acupuncture expert!
I went for a couple of months, first for my stomach issues and then for fertility. In both cases I am happy to say that I was successful! I haven't had to take any stomach medication for about two years, keep in mind that I was on it for about eight years leading up to that. Amazing! I also had luck with fertility--sure some of that was Mother Nature working her magic but it certainly gave me peace of mind and relaxed me if nothing else. You will find that you go into a trance of sorts when you have acupuncture done and for me it was the most relaxing half hour of my day, I really looked forward to it. I was also given some teas to brew at home to help my issues. I won't sugar coat it--this was the most disgusting smelling and tasting thing that I have ever experienced. I am somebody who gags easily and even I could handle it, mind over matter I say.
If you are an open minded person and believe in alternative medicine, then accupuncture is definitely worth a try. I believe in it and actually want to go back, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
