Is Adam Lambert the New Elvis?

Will Adam Lambert Become a Music Legend on a Par with Elvis Presley?

Hartley Engel
Could American Idol front-runner Adam Lambert become a music legend on a par with Elvis Presley? Is Adam Lambert the new Elvis? No doubt Adam Lambert's legions of ridiculously-devoted fans think so, but could it really happen? Could there ever be another Elvis?

Similarities between Adam Lambert and Elvis Presley

One would have to be visually impaired not to see that Adam Lambert bears a resemblance to Elvis Presley. For a side-by-side comparison click here. Elvis exuded sexual energy, and so does Adam Lambert. In my view, though, Elvis was better looking, but as a raging heterosexual male, I feel unqualified to judge. I'll leave that for the straight girls and gay guys to decide.

You may be surprised to learn that Elvis dyed his hair jet black (his natural hair color was reportedly dirty blond). This may qualify as another similarity between Adam Lambert and Elvis, for Adam Lambert allegedly dies his hair too (word has it that he is a natural blond).

Adam Lambert looks like Elvis but he sounds like Axl Rose

The similarities may stop there, though, as Adam Lambert doesn't sound anything like Elvis Presley. As Hidensneek.com says, Adam Lambert is "a guy with Elvis like looks, but with the voice of Axl Rose." And Elvis sounds nothing like Axl Rose.

At the risk of offending Elvis fans, I'm going to go right ahead and say it: In my opinion, Adam Lambert is a better singer than Elvis. He's much more versatile and his voice is infinitely more powerful.

Is Adam Lambert the New Elvis?

But none of this really answers the question posed at the beginning of this article: Will Adam Lambert become as popular as Elvis? Is it even remotely feasible to describe Adam Lambert as the new Elvis?

Elvis's widow, Priscilla Presley, probably doesn't think so. "Not only talent, but his passion, his compassion, his generosity. I don't know if we'll ever see anything like it again, you know?" said Priscilla Presley to Larry King on the 30th anniversary of Elvis's death. "And it's growing. We have, now, kids who are 6, 7, 8, 9, into their 13s and are into their teens and really discovering who Elvis is today. And it's spreading."

Could there ever be another Elvis? And, if so, is that person Adam Lambert? Will Adam Lambert's stint on American Idol launch his career into the stratosphere? Will Adam Lambert become a movie star in addition to a singing sensation?

What do you think, dear reader?

You're the dumbest person I've ever met. You are deaf or haven't seriously listened to Elvis if you think Adam is anything vocally close to Elvis.

The reasons behind Elvis stardom spells uniqueness
    - Unique music style: Rock.. before 1955 very few had heard rock
    - Unique voice. Elvis voice is unique in many senses and totally recognizeable.
    - Physically unique: Great looks and charisma.

Adam Lambert is not unique in any of the above sense:
    - Music genre: Well, great songs, but you have heard similar many times before
    - Great singing teqnique, but actually not easy to recognize that it is Adam singing... many female singers sounds like Adam.
    - Great looks... but actually not unique, since people consider him being an Elvis look alike.

Why are people always making comparisons? It's okay to like, BOTH, Elvis and Adam ... and anyone else you so choose. You don't have to pick just one singer anymore than you have to pick just one food.

Nobody is saying that Adam is, somehow, going to REPLACE Elvis. But, does he have that same star quality? ABSOLUTELY! That's what makes fans and haters alike seek out articles about Adam. There's just something about him that draws people to him. Just like with Elvis, who, incidentally, also had his share of haters(mostly men).

It's okay to like both. Nothing bad will happen to you if you do. Honest!

I think he is the next Elvis, his career is shaking the world, making lot of controversy (not intentionally) like Elvis did.

Time will decide, sorry for all of you who doesn´t like him now because you will be adoring him in a few years

Adam's career will be as big as Elvis', yet quite different. After all, it's some 50 years later and times have changed. But Adam is the first challenger in looks, talent and diversity.

Adam is not Elvis, but I agree with Donny. I went to the concert and Adam has presence and is clearly the one to see. Kris Allen is not second best, Allison is. Adam brought originality to Idol and Idol according to Cowell was looking for an artist an international star. The judges knew Adam is that person. Gokey's votes went to Allen who both are simular in style. The show is over and all the idols have to make it on their own. Some like the ones who wanted Lambert booted off will not do the spectacular and some will. It is not Adam knocking on the doors but thebig leagues opening the doors for him and that is due to appeal.
