Is New Age Metaphysics a Religion?

We are the students circled around the towering statue. Each instructed to paint a picture of our impression of the statue. Each painting from their own view point. (front -back-side-top-bottom-middle) Each different in it's perspective. Each of the same ONE statue.

Over the years I think this is the best depiction of humanity relationship to God/Source, that I've yet to hear. Note I use the term Source. Just like he view we have of the statue which is different from each perspective,so is what we call it; be that difference from language, perception, or word by which to recognize. "A rose is still a rose by another name" Many years ago when attending a weekly meeting with a group of New Agers I asked if we could begin referring to God as Source or Oneness. There was only one person that balked, and wouldn't you know, that was the group leader. Please understand I was not being disrespectful nor denying God, which is what most of us called the supreme being. The suggestion was made because I began to see a change taking place in our group and the new age community, with people respecting beliefs of others. Many groups consisted of varying religious doctrines which joined in their oneness as humanity respecting their differences.

This is one of the principal New Age Metaphysics is built on. It was is basically scientific/spiritualism not to become a religion. Many groups were made up of varying religious beliefs, all using different reference points for the same divine source. It only seemed appropriate we find a reference which would honor all. This movement came out of the 60's and has been in the process of evolving over the past fifty years. It is for this reason so many find a confusion attached to it, and perhaps think New Agers flaky because of the changing perceptions. Our society is accustom to groups which establish set rules, formats, and dogma that remain it's unchanged bylaws and beliefs. New Age accepts all as being one, and thus the personal beliefs and principals are personal to individual perception which does not change our being part of Oneness. New Age Metaphysics is in a state of constant evolving progression of awakening expanded awareness of reality. What we knew yesterday has changed today, and what we know in the tomorrow, will not be as it is in the now. It is an Evolution of consciousness!

This so called awakening or opening, is a realization that we all derive from the same source making us one with it and all other. It is a realization that all else is only the perception of mans belief systems. It in no way diminishes any religious belief, but expands on it's ideals. These belief systems, are something that men separated in different areas of the world, devised to become their beliefs. One is no better than or more right than the other. They are only better or right
because the individuals in that area believe that perception. There was a 1960 Beatles song given to the world to sing which said it all.

It's most unfortunate that the 60's movement was embedded in the drug culture which caused main stream society to turn their backs and close their ears to the philosophy. From it came the New Age philosophy of highest spiritual principals of love for all else as part of the self in Oneness. In no way is it flaky to live as one with all other oneness, and seek harmony through respect for the differences we share as the many varied sides of the ONE statue.
