Is All the Expensive Equipment in Golf Really Worth It?
Golf Equipment Tends to Be Extremely Expensive
Let us first start with the many different kinds of golf clubs. You have drivers, irons, wedges, hybrid clubs, and putters. There are many sets out there for between one hundred and three hundred dollars, but these sets do not have the quality of a more name brand set of irons or driver. The positive to getting one of these sets is that you get everything. You will get a driver, a set of irons, a wedge, and a putter.
Now if you are more serious about golf and are willing to spend the money for it, then you want to avoid sets like that at all costs. You will need to look at each type of club individually, and find exactly what suits your game. You have to figure that once your set of clubs is complete you can expect to spend between 1,000 and 3,000 dollars. A driver will be around 300 dollars; a good set of irons will be between 700 and 1,500 dollars. Woods and hybrids will cost you quite a bit of money, along with specific wedges and putters. You can always look for these pieces of equipment used as well. You obviously just need to make sure the equipment is still in good shape. As long as the used equipment looks decent then it is probably in good shape. Keep in mind golf equipment is not like a car, unless the equipment is beat up, it will last for quite a while, where as a car will last only as long as the engine can hold up.
Now once you have decided what is necessary for you to golf with then you need to start looking at golf balls. There are so many different types of golf balls out there. There are soft golf balls designed for spin and better accuracy off the irons, and hard golf balls designed for little spin and more distance off the tee. Softer balls tend to run more expensive then hard golf balls, but can be worth it. It all depends on your type of style. If you have trouble hitting irons, then that may be your type of golf ball. There are even a few golf balls out there that seem to incorporate the accuracy and distance off the tee, with the softness for shot shaping irons. These balls however are extremely expensive and on average run for about 55 dollars per dozen.
Seeing as you now have all the equipment you need to golf, you need to be ready to purchase outfits for the nicer courses. Some courses require certain shirts such as collard or certain fabric, which can usually run pretty expensive. Some golfers even like to just purchase golf shirts as they tend to make you look more sophisticated on the golf course.
Golf is an expensive game. There is no way around it. Whether you purchase an expensive set of golf clubs, or golf frequently at an expensive golf course, it is no secret that you are going to spend quite a bit of money. The only question you need to ask yourself is, is it all worth it? You will golf better with more expensive equipment, but does it really mean that much to you?

Sites like eBay are the best things that have happened to golf in a while. You can get tremendous deals on barely-used (and I mean BARELY-used) clubs. As long as you know what you're looking for, I'd recommend going that route for higher-end equipment. And yes, Titleist Pro-V1's are worth every penny. Nice article!
