Is Allen Iverson's Legacy Ruined?

Andrew Ng
Less than a week after announcing retirement Allen Iverson returns to the NBA with the team that started it all the Philadelphia 76ers will this effect the way that Allen Iverson is looked at when he retires for good? Will he be like Brent Favre and ruin his legacy as one of the greatest players of his era? It is possible Allen Iverson like Brent Favre still have gas in the tank the problem the difference between them is that Brent Favre is still a wanted quarterback and got talked out of retirement unlike Allen Iverson who retired because no team would sign him. The Philadelphia 76ers had no choice but to sign Allen Iverson because of their low attendance and loss of starting point guard if it was not for that as much as a fan I am of Allen Iverson I believe that his career was over in the NBA.

With him returning less than a week later it was not a shocked the NBA who he signed with was but not him coming back it was foreshadowed in his retirement letter. But this article is not about that what it is about is how will that ruin Allen's legacy I recently wrote a piece for associated content about Allen's legacy and to me it depends on how the 76ers play with him back do they win games or continue to lose? Does Allen continue his me first ways or change? There are a lot of deciding factors that are in play for Allen's legacy no doubt he is a future hall of fame player but at the same time look at how he behaved at his last two stops how he would not accept a bench role and in all honesty I think that comes back to haunt his legacy why? If he would've accept a bench role Allen would have went down as one of the greatest bench players and the ultimate team mate by sacrificing a starting spot to win a championship ring but he didn't he has to start, although I will admit that the players in front of him on the depth chart in Detroit and Memphis were not better than him but is Michael Finley really better than Mano Ginobili? No, yet look who is starting in San Antonio Allen is a way better player than Mano no offense but look who has the championship ring. There is no questioning his game the questioning is his attitude during his career who can forget the famous Practice rant in 02?

It's all up to you but to me Allen Iverson is a lesser player no matter how great he is because of what he's done the past few years he could have done something special in Detroit and Memphis who knows.
