One factor that can be considered is the person's gender. Men and women experience different kinds of hair loss. Men usually have localized areas of thinning, whereas women experience a diffused thinning throughout their entire head. The general rule is that the localized type of hair loss is the best candidate for a hair transplant, thus making most men good candidates.
Another factor to consider is the patient's age. Generally, younger patients ranging from 18 to 25 years old are not good candidates because their hair loss is most likely normal and will probably progress further. It is better to address such hair loss through preventive medication first.
The correct time to have a hair transplant is when the severity of the hair loss can already be assessed by the doctor with more or less reasonable certainty. This way, there is no risk of an incorrect distribution of a finite amount of donor hair.
The extent of hair loss should also be considered. It is advisable to get a hair transplant if the hair loss has already been stabilized, since it would be easier for the doctor to put grafts into the right areas.
Density of the hair is also a factor which may influence the effect of hair transplant on a person. Density is the number of hairs per unit of surface area. Therefore, the higher the density, the more hair is available for transplantation. This hair density is also affected by the type of hair of the person. For example, thick and coarse hair has more density than straight hair, with the result that the benefits of hair transplant can best be maximized.
Remember, deciding whether or not you need to undergo hair transplantation surgery should not be done impulsively. There are a lot of things to consider before getting one. Above all the factors discussed above, it is most important to regularly consult with your doctor regarding your hair condition. He is most likely to know best which is best for your hair problems.
