Is Animal Abuse Rising?

Theresa L.
If you have had the opportunity to read along, you have noticed a lot of my articles has been about animals. Nature is beautiful, and sometimes, we as human beings, forget that nature is just as valuable as we are.

If we, humans and animals, are going to live together in this world, than we need to respect each other. With more and more roads being built, animals are being pushed out of there homes.

We, as people, do not think twice about it. Until something ugly happens, and once again animals are in the news for attacking another human being.

I bring this up because of animal cruelty. Many people, and I will admit I am one of them, do not think about animals being abused. The sad reality is every year a large number of animals are abused.

Pet-abuse.com has an excellent website on statistics of animal abuse over the years. In 2005, they recorded 2,335 animals abused in the United States. It does not seem like a large number, but, for animals, it is. The number did drop considerably since than, with pet-abuse.com recording 827 cases last year.

In reality, these animals are permanently scarred. I recently wrote an article on the grizzly attacks in Yellowstone National Forest. The females grizzly's cubs were also caught, and transported to a zoo. They did this because they felt these cubs would be a danger to humans, after witnessing their own mother attacking humans.

They are right. Once an animal is abused they do not forget that, and they can easily turn savage if they believe they are in danger.

In Fresno, California abclocal.go.com reported 200 animals abused at a home in Strathmore. 50 of those animals were dead, and the remaining 150 were badly abused.

I recently wrote another article about DC and someone stoning animals to death, with 12 cases in the last few months.

In Kingston, a woman is being charged with the abuse of 50 dogs according to dailyfreeman.com.

Almost three hundred animals, just in the last week were written about being abused Animal rights activist, and the Humane Society of working hard to bring an end to animal abuse. The one thing we, as humans, need to remember is animals have rights too. Just because they can not talk, or get a job, does not mean they can not feel. If by respecting them, then maybe the number of abuse against animals, and attacks against humans will drop considerably.
