Is the Apple IPad Just a Big IPod Touch or More?
Is There a Difference Between the IPod and IPad Other Than Screen Size?
Apple just faced their biggest competitor; themselves. It's hard for Apple to live up to the high expectations of Apple enthusiasts and no matter what they do, there will be disappointed fans. The biggest issue Apple is facing with its iPad release is fans skepticism as to whether there's a difference between the iPod Touch and the iPad (other than size).
Most Apple fans feel as though apple swapped the "o" in iPod with an "a", made the iPod Touch bigger, and called it a day. My only response to these allegations (which are pretty darn accurate) is "So what if it is?" The larger screen size opens up the possibilities of what the iPad can do for its users and makes a real difference. Comparing the iPad to "just a big iPod" is like comparing a shovel to "just a big spoon". Yes, the spoon and shovel have the same basic design, but try digging a grave with a spoon; and if you are going to moan about the iPad, make it your own grave.
The iPad has the same interface, layout, and pretty much the same functionality of a big iPod but it provides more screen real estate and there is a difference between the two. iPad borrows apps from the iPod's app store, and gives the same movie and music playback but the difference is the manner in which it does these tasks. With the iPad's new A4 processor your old apps, movies, and music will be able to playback at an accelerated speed than with the iPod. The 9.7 inch screen of the iPad makes reading easier but also creates another difference between itself and the iPod; providing the perfect screen size for running new features like iWorks , iBooks, and watching movies.
The Apple iPad is more "big iPod" than a new gadget, but for the low price starting at only $499.99; it's not a bad deal at all. Imagine the price difference you'd have to pay to get a 9.7 inch 16GB iPod Touch. The iPod Touch is already on the market for around 299.99 with a 3.5 inch screen. If you were to almost triple the screen size to a big 9.7 inch, you'd have to almost triple the price to a projected $831.00 smackeroos.
If the iPad was just a big iPod Touch, it would still be a great device (that you'd rush to buy). Just be glad that the price is as low as $499.99 and try to give Apple a little more breathing room at their next release conference.
