Is it Appropriate for Students to Be Asked is it Illegal Aliens Are Put to Death on a Quiz

am very much against illegal immigration. I see it as a plague on our great nation that has been swept under the rug by both parties for far too long. It seems lately the republicans are taking a rule of law approach while the democrats are playing politics looking for votes by trying to "out Latino" the republicans through racial divide. The debate has hit a new level now in that third graders were given a quiz that including asking if the United States shoots illegal invaders to the nation.

I must say this is the first time I am aware of anything like this. My wife had heard about this from another teacher at her school as an example of the things not to do. What had occurred is that some students in third grade Gwinnett County Elementary had homework with some disturbing questions (to some) about illegal immigration. The wording of one question really is what concerned people.

What Does the U.S. do with illegal aliens?

A. The U.S. puts them to work in the army.

B. The U.S. shoots them into outer space.

C. The U.S. puts them to death.

D. The U.S. sends them back were they came from

I did not include the choice of giving them free healthcare, a chance to product anchor babies that they can get welfare, WIC, and food stamps for in addition to public housing. They also did not mention we let foreign nationals complain about how they are treated in a country they don't belong in to begin with. Jorge Quintana (I am sure he is impartial here) is a district spokesperson and said the material was "not appropriate for the classroom". The teacher was using the test to teach the kids reading comprehension skills, which is very important. It was not released how or if the teacher would be dicsiplined, but Quintana said the material was "not appropriate for the classroom".

I will say that this might not be the best thing for a third grader to have used in an educational setting. There are some who have pointed out that since we are teaching third graders about homosexuality then what is wrong with learning about illegal immigration and the problems they pose to the great nation of ours? The one question referenced above got to so many people because it mentioned shooting them into space and killing them. People are claiming this is teaching kids to hate. I will say that many multiple choice questions even on the SAT have an answer or two that might be completely off the wall. I recall my driver's Ed exam had a question of what to do at a yellow light. One choice for an answer was "put the pedal to the metal and try to get through before it turns red". Most people do that, but that is hardly the right answer. One of the funniest things about this story is that all the Latinos and liberals are crying racism. Guess what? The teacher is Hispanic.
