Is The Bachelor Ending Really that Shocking?

Why Men Love Bad Girls

Gina Grace
Top of Yahoo News this morning, March 2, reads, "Jake makes stunning choice when proposing to the "Bad Girl." I don't watch the Bachelor nor have a caught one single episode this year. But, is anyone really shocked that the bad girl was chosen? Almost every couple I know, there seems to be one person in the duo who is feisty. How many times have you thought, "He is just so nice, but his wife..." Think about it. The question is "why?" Now, I am no psychologist, but I think any woman over 30, could deductively reason the following:

Better Sex
Men like woman that are, well...a little "dirty." That's right. Sad as it is, most men like the thought of the wildcat in bed and often times that seems a little more viable from a "bad girl" a.k.a. Vienna Girardi. Society pumps men with this image from the time they are very young. Most men love the words, "Chick fight!" They like feisty women. It appeals to a really core need, their number one need, actually: sex. This makes the beloved bachelor, Jake Pavelkam, like most every man alive: Stereotypical. And that is just not that shocking.

A Challenge
Men love a challenge. It is in their nature, this competitive spirit. I am not saying this is true of all men, it's just likely. It's the reason they dominate sports. It is proven through time, this quest for dominance. So, how challenging is a "good girl" really? A bad girl is something a man will have to reign in and the thought of that may have appealed to this bachelor.

Look at the guy. He's handsome. He probably has a killer job and he's not that young. So why wasn't he hitched before? He isn't going to settle. That is why. He needs more than all the girls who have likely been qualified in the past. He needs a challenge. In walks bad girl...clear choice.

Tame the Beast
"Good" is nice, but it is predictable. In the same way he likes a little challenge, he probably feels the need to "tame the beast." It is a story of a codependent..."I can fix it." Though this may have never be said aloud this season, it's there. Also, there is a little rebellion in the bad choice. He isn't a pleaser, he wants to blaze a new trail and win. He wants the bad girl.

In bed at night, he could probably picture his life with the sweetheart and could likely predict the outcome of every civil, sweet conversation...and he was bored just thinking about it. Now, he has himself a handful and he wanted it because he will conquer - he's a winner!

The Underdog
Make no mistake. This guy was not immune to the fact that the "bad girl" had this label. He knows she's a stinker. And there is probably this thread of sympathy - more a web created by the black widow, which spins carefully. Since she wasn't the popular choice, he probably tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, more than the other. More time was probably spent working through her drama...more time thinking of HER.

Like a demon, she crept in. Now, she is presented the diamond. BUZZ

He is no prize. Producers go to the nines to depict their prince charming, so we will watch the beautiful deserving couple ride off into the sunset. But if this guy is stupid enough to fall for the vixen and expect a lifetime of happiness...he isn't a catch and "good girl," Tenley Molsahn, not only just got humiliated, she got let off the hook. And in the end, the prize is hers, because she won't have to deal with his warped expectations...and might actually end up with a man of character who knows a good thing when he sees it.

I hear what you're saying, but there was another side to this as well. I did watch The Bachelor, and it was clear to see how uptight and tense Jake was around good girl Tenley, and how happy and relaxed he was as soon as he was with Vienna. I think they make a good couple. Let's wait and see.

It wasn't shocking at all. It was a done deal weeks ago.
