Is Barack Obama Really the "Change" This Country Needs?

Craig Olson
Introduction

My opinion is that Obama should choose Hillary as his running mate because she has more experience than he does. Also the healthcare system is a mess and it needs to be reformed. Michael Moorer was right. There is a myth of excellence in American healthcare. This myth is perpetuated by drug company advertisements.

The McCain Mutiny

Although McCain has some good qualities, he favors the war in Iraq that we started. This war is quicksand. It is a bottomless pit. It was perhaps the worst strategic mistake in American history. It is contrary to the national interest. Rather than weakening Islamic radicals, it has strengthened them.

Massive Amounts of Money Could be Saved on Healthcare

Orthomolecular medicine is cheaper, safer, and often more logical than orthodox medicine. For example, a gastric bypass operation is very expensive and dangerous. A malpractice lawsuit was filed against Mass. General Hospital for a case in which the obese patient suffered internal bleeding as a result of the operation.

The orthomolecular approach would be a high fiber diet.

There are also disastrous problems from side effects of psychiatric medicine. Orthomolecular treatments have good side effects. The bibliography contains a great deal of information on orthomolecular medicine and also on money-driven medicine, which is what we have now.

Brilliant research has been done in Russia which has been largely ignored in the US except by myself. In 2007 Dr. Natalya Uranova and her group found "large activated lymphocytes" (LAL) in schizophrenia. This was published in the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry. This supports my own theory of amino acids flooding the brain cells. Amino acids are flooding all the cells, but the brain is where the most damage is being done. The large cells are consistent with the cells overeating some macronutrients. When a cell is "activated", in biological terms this means that the cell is actively converting amino acids to protein. This would happen if the cells were flooded with amino acids.

Uranova et al (2007)

"The data suggest that the excess of LB in schizophrenic patients is associated with the dysfunction of energy metabolism in LAL, and these abnormalities are related to schizophrenia." Uranova et al

The LB are "lymphoblasts", which are atypical lymphocytes. The allstar cast of Russian researchers in this group is shown below:

Authors: Natalya Uranova a; Pavel Bonartsev a; Oleg Brusov a; Margarita Morozova a; Valentina Rachmanova a; Diana Orlovskaya a
Affiliation:a Laboratory of Clinical Neuropathology, Mental Health Research Center, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow, Russia

"The frequency of small lymphocytes in schizophrenic patients was lower and that of large lymphocytes, LAL and LB was higher than in controls (all p= < 0.01). The volume density (Vv) of mitochondria in LAL in individuals with schizophrenia was lower than in controls (p= < 0.01)." Uranova et al

These same researchers have been publishing positive findings for years. These findings, including a toxic factor in the blood, have been almost completely ignored by American psychiatric textbooks. This may not be by chance. The orthomolecular workers in the US and Canada have long maintained that there is a toxic factor in the blood.

Furthermore, amino acids are in the diet. The APA is interested mainly in drugs.

Conclusions

It is not clear whether Obama will be open to orthomolecular medicine. It is clear that the clowns that are in there now are not. Dr. Andrew Weil would make a good surgeon general as would Dr. Kunin.

My theory is that a diet very low in amino acids may benefit schizophrenia and other mental diseases. Good nutrition should benefit a wide variety of chronic diseases including cancer. Unfortunately psychiatric drugs can cause weight gain, diabetes, heart problems, skin problems, etc. This is a very long list. Lithium can cause kidney damage, thyroid problems, neurotoxicity, etc.

Some psychiatric drugs can cause a form of brain damage called tardive dyskinesia. This should not be allowed to happen as it has in the past. Orthomolecular treatments do not do this. The drugs create a synthetic Parkinson's disease.

There is a myth of excellence in American healthcare. There are many good doctors, but all too often these good doctors are bombarded with drug company advertising and gifts.
