Why would a gay man bareback?
1. There are some within the gay community who are no longer afraid of HIV. They are apathetic over the issue of the transmission of the virus and either believe that you cannot avoid the virus or it is now controlled and therefore if they do get it they will still be able to live a long life. The harsh reality is HIV is alive and thriving. This virus has no cure. The medications prescribed for HIV just prolongs its development into AIDS
2. Sadly there are an increasing number of men who go around deliberating transmitting the HIV virus or want to receive it. Those wishing to pass the virus on are known as gift givers and those who wish to contract the virus are known as bug chasers.
3. There are gay men that already have HIV and see no need to practice safe sex so long as they are having sex with another HIV carrier. But 2 HIV positive men can transmit and re-transmit the virus and may create new strains.
4. There are many gay men that just wish to live for the moment and accept what ever may come their way. Yes, they may think that they can accept HIV but they also need to stop and really wonder if a moment of heightened pleasure is really worth a lifetime of misery.
5. Somebody who has low self-esteem can quite easily be persuaded to follow the directions of a partner who is more confident. You may be in bed with a gorgeous man and he tells you that he cannot get an erection when wearing a condom. Stop right there, this is sexual bullying and there is no thought to your health and well-being.
6. And of course the old enemy of straight thinking, drugs. Drugs such as crystal meth and ecstasy can really impair the judgment and can drastically increase the chance of a person having sex without protection.
Why go bareback?
There are three main reasons why barebacking is considered worth the risk: there is more spontaneity, you feel closer to your partner and there is a greater sensation to the penis.
Negative affects of barebacking
1.There is a huge increase in the chances of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis.
2. You could pass something along to a partner.
3. By barebacking you are putting yourself into the hands of someone else. And that someone else could be a stranger.
