A Thai island is a great place if you want to chill out and spend a lot of time on the beach. These tropical beaches are captivating enough to keep some people content for their whole holiday. The popular islands are visited mostly with tourists who are there to get away from it all. The laid back mood is intoxicating and a lot of tourists spend much of the time lying on the beach or sitting in the bars. It is so easy to just fall into the routine of doing very little, and for many tourists this is what holidays are all about. There are many water activities and things to keep kids happy on the islands so fun can be had by the whole family. People who visit a Thai island enjoy it so much that they often don't visit anywhere else in Thailand.
Northern Thailand is great for people who get bored just lying around on the beach or sitting in bars; that is not to say that there is not people sitting in bars in northern Thailand. There is just so much on offer in the north for the adventure tourist; including trekking and water rafting. The scenery differs a lot from the islands, but it is just as enchanting. Anyone interested in Thai culture will be spoilt here and you will be able to visit the different tribes of Thailand. The north of the country has its own unique traditions and culture, and it is an area that many people fall completely in love with after visiting. Places like Chiang Mai are great for those who would like to learn something during their holiday and there is an abundance of courses available including; Thai massage, Thai cooking, Thai language, or even Muay Thai. Chiang Mai is also the best location in Thailand for book lovers with many second-hand bookstores in the city.
The choice to visit Northern Thailand or a Thai island will very much depend on what you want from your holiday. If you just want to relax and forget it all then you would probably be best visiting a Thai island. If on the other hand, you want a bit more adventure on your holiday you might be best to visit Northern Thailand.
