Drivers to the parking garage could not believe it, a bobcat in the garage. When the animal control officer got there, she could not believe a bobcat was hiding under a car. Tina Thomason said, "I kept telling 'em, 'It's just a big cat. It's just a big cat. But it wasn't. It's definitely a bobcat.'"
The bobcat was not fazed by the first tranquilizer. A second shot of tranquilizer was fired and the big cat continued to roam but finally succumbed to a sleep after 90 minutes. This allowed for the big cat's capture. Chris Glaser of BARC said, "It takes a while when there's a lot of excitement. You have to have it calm for the animal to go down when you give it the tranquilizer."
The big cat was checked out by a vet and then released into its natural habitat, the Brazos Bend State Park in Fort Bend County. Buffalo Bayou is close by and Chris Glaser said the bobcat was probably foraging for food and just happened to wonder into the nearby parking garage.
Bobcats are native to the Houston area, just not in the city.

Post a CommentWow, that's an odd place to find a wild cat. Thanks for sharing.
Great story, Cheryl. Glad the big cat is okay and was released.
Me, too. Glad I was not in the garage at the same time.
this would be a bit too much for me!
Thanks, Linda.
Cheryl, I had not seen your article till now. It's amazing. I can't believe they fit a bobcat into that little pet carrier! Glad it all turned out without anybody getting injured. Poor ol' cat. Love Sheryl's comment that he couldn't figure out where he parked his car. Good story!
Thank you, Cathy.
Well...that would certainly shake me up! Cool video!
Susan - it's probably a good thing that someone was not walking in the car garage with a pet. Scary to think about.
Oh, my goodness! I can't imagine seeing that. Supposedly we have coyotes around here - various people's dogs have disappeared :(
