Is Bottled Water Healthier Than Distilled Water?

John Vann
In light of today's incredibly health-conscious population, more and more people find themselves drinking much more water than they used to - especially when compared to the amount of soft drinks and other beverages our nation is known for. And as a replacement, many consumers are now reaching for that bottle of water off from the store shelf instead of a bottle of soda; but as you are about to find out, drinking bottled water, or even tap water for that matter, is not nearly as healthy for the human body as distilled water - and there are several reasons for this.

What Is Distilled Water

In order to properly understand the benefits of drinking distilled water over bottled and tap water you must first understand how water is distilled in the first place, and how it is currently being used. In fact, according to www.distilledwater.net, there is no other method of water purification that is more effective than distillation - it doesn't matter how fancy your tap water filter is, or how expensive that bottled water is - neither is as pure as distilled water.

Distillation involves first boiling the water, and then condensing the steam into a separate container. This leaves all of the impurities in the old container, and leaves the new container full of highly purified water. Besides making excellent drinking water, distilled water is used in a variety of applications, as well. Distilled water is used by the automotive industry in car batteries and cooling systems, and it is used in a number of chemical and biological applications, as well.

Now that you have a good understanding of what distilled water is, let's take a look at some of the advantages it has over drinking bottled water or tap water that comes straight from your kitchen faucet.

- Tap water filters aren't cheap, especially when you add up the cost to keep a fresh filter on your faucet year round. Because filters tend to become dirty rather quickly, you'll need to constantly keep an eye on the tap water that you're drinking to make sure it is not contaminated; and let's not forget the awful taste associated with tap water in some parts of our country that water filters simply can't treat.

- Bottled water is expensive, and many studies like the one that can be found at www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5467759/ show that most bottled water contains the same amount of contamination and bacteria as unfiltered tap water. In fact many times your fancy bottled water is coming from the same kind of municipal water supply that your ordinary tap water is. If your water is distilled, however, you know that all of these impurities that you've been trying to avoid will actually be eliminated.

- Some plastic containers are made using hazardous materials that may have the potential to cause health problems in humans. Considering this fact, drinking bottled water may even be counter-productive to your living a healthy lifestyle. While current studies show that all FDA approved water containers on the market today are safe, there simply is no telling what future findings on the matter may reveal.

As you can see by now, drinking tap or bottled water is not nearly as healthy as distilled water - even though millions of Americans are still tricked into thinking that their filtered and bottled water is pure. Despite what the commercials and advertisements are telling you, distilled water is your only choice for pure, uncontaminated water.
